The level of money he earns is also significantly higher than what your average joe earns and money makes a lot of things in life easier.

People insult footballers all the time in the most offensive and horrible ways. I don’t say it’s okay, it’s not but to have the illusion that this will ever change is just stupid. It will never change because of how some humans are wired.

You gonna play the world’s most popular sport and earn bucket loads of money kicking a ball around. Learn to deal with some hanky panky brick layer calling you a useless donkey cunt because you score own goals with your slabhead. :person_shrugging:t5:

Yeah, it does like paying the bills and more means to acquire material possessions.

It hardly does anything to shield from the kind of hate and criticism aimed at him though and that’s the point.

The money he has doesn’t allow him to wave a wand and stop it, does it? Which is why it’s irrelevant IMO

I find it hard to know how to react to her post because it is not clear which specifc sorts of comments she is referring to.

The majority I’ve seen or heard is fairly justified, focusing on him being a bit shit and not justifying selection. That’s obviously horrible for her to hear, but I think it comes with the territory and there is always going to be a place for that in football.

I’m sure there’s plenty that goes beyond that level, but even then, on a pragmatic level I really don’t think having mummy leap to your defence on spcial media is helpful.

I know he won’t want to look like he is bowing to pressure and hanging Maguire out to dry, but the only person who can really protect him here is Southgate, and bringing him on vs Scotland of all teams is probably something he should reflect on.

I remember when Wright was interviewed and he said that in away games he would get abuse every time he took a throw in or was near opposition supporters but took it as a compliment because he was such a great player.

Maguire is considered a hard man but comes nowhere near the level mentally or physically of Wright.

What does being considered a hard man have to do with it? And where exactly is that narrative from anyway, because he’s a tall player?

Honestly your argument is a very poor one, you’re talking Wright who would have had criticism because he was great not because he was in a downward spiral because of poor performances, stripped of captaincy and the like.

It’s not the same thing at all.

These are things you have to deal with as a highly paid professional footballer so if Maguire is playing badly he has to sort himself out because it’s part of the game and why he’s paid so well for it.

As for the hard man part, it’s not really that relevant apart from him being considered a physically tough CB that doesn’t really have many other attributes.

Like I said the money is also irrelevant, money doesn’t make it go away or make it any less prevalent.

Some people expect athletes to be robots because they’re compensated well for their job which is just idiotic.

The other point is that it is part and parcel with the profession, whether justifiable or not.

Like I said above, most things in life have a tradeoff involved and although joe everyman doesn’t get the same abuse, there are other struggles that he would encounter that Maguire would not.

It’s relevent because it’s something we spend most of our lives trying to acquire.

In a vacuum, sure, it might not specifically fix the problem in and of itself but then again he would likely have access to assistance that the average person couldn’t afford to pay for.

I bookmarked this tweet when I saw it a month ago

United were after a central defender but because Maguire elected to stay, they weren’t able to sign one that cost money. A lot of people expressed similar feelings to the above.

Plus the fact the club were basically briefing against him by saying he would not be willing to take a paycut.

———

As for the Scottish fans cheering whenever he passed the ball, or Arsenal fans cheering and singing his name when he came off the bench, I have very little issue with that reception.

Maguire didn’t stop them from doing anything, the club stopped themselves.

If they really want him out then pay him what is within his contract, they’re the dumbasses that included a clause for a raise if they got CL football. A raise you know.

They’re run by clowns, Maguire shouldn’t be one getting it in the neck for the foolish decisions made by the club.

That tweet is utter garbage from an armchair psychologist.

Totally agree. It’s not Maguire’s fault they gave him that contract. We’ve been through this with Pepe just a few days ago. We had to terminate his contract to get him to leave. We’ll have to do the same with Cedric, probably.

If United really wanted KmJ or Todibo, they could have reached a termination agreement with Maguire and moved on.

That’s just twitter speculation, United have spent stupid o’clock fees without any consideration forever. It’s an issue now because one player (Who isn’t the first) doesn’t wanna bounce?

Jeez social media eh.

Let’s be honest here

The moment we saw Maguire Evans pairing we knew we will Come away with 3 points in that game :joy:

I have nothing but praise for slabheads ineptitude at playing defense

Aww his mum wrote him a note because he was being bullied

I dont mind being bullied for a couple of years to be a multimillionaire. Where do i sign up?

Even more ridiculous when you consider the payoff he was seeking was reportedly £7m which is a lot of money but not a great deal for United

West Ham were offering around £30m for him so they’d still get something like £23m on the books towards another sigining, Pavard signed for Inter for an initial £26m so it’s all a load of BS as per with Twitter.

It seems they didn’t want to pay him out of spite or because it’d make them look bad more than anything.

Chelsea and Man Utd are going neck and neck in the title race for the biggest shitshow in world football.

Inexcusable how they’ve been operating the past 5-6 years.
