Manchester United

they invest, but they are so poor at buying just like we are so poor with selling.

They’ve barely put any of their own money in the club, taken plenty out of it, saddled it with mounting debt and left their faciltiies to decay and stagnate, they’re now trash including the stadium itself which is falling apart.

I’d guess that’s where the fan issues stem from

(acts surprised)

All these scandals going on, with some of their best players and the owners running the club into debt, then supporters protesting and no trophies, it’s looking rather embarrassing.

But topping that they’ve seen one of their biggest rivals beat them in the last few minutes of a game where Maguire and a player they got rid of from when Ferguson was there, as their CB partnership.
It’s so funny. :grinning:

If that post is genuine, his mum really isn’t making the situation better and opposition supporters are going to be all over this.
He’s getting more than a 100k a week and like plenty of other players in a similar situation, he has to deal with it.

Why do people always mention money in regards to mental health with famous people?

Such a tired comment. Money doesn’t mean you can’t have issues

Yes but at the same time, mental health isn’t something specific to pro sports players either.

A key difference between them and your everyman is one earns millions of dollars and for most things in life there is a trade-off of some sort.

Even though it doesn’t justify fan abuse, every pro footballer is aware of it and tbh as a normal person earning in a year what some of these guys earn in a week or two, it’s hard to feel the same sort of sympathy as I would for my mate slaving in the 9 to 5 for relative pennies.

Who said he had mental health issues?
He’s being criticised for not playing very well and like loads of other players he has to deal with it.
In any other job, he would have probably been sacked for continuous poor performances.
He earns a lot because he’s at a top level club and the pressure that goes with it and if that post is genuine, it isn’t going to make the situation any better.

You just said he is getting paid 100k so he can deal with it lol

If Maguire doesn’t like being a footballer for one of the biggest clubs in Europe, earning massive wages, then he can leave knowing he doesn’t have to work again.
Compare that to a normal person who’s in a rubbish job that pays minimum wage that they hate.

Good point.

If anything, his mam has said he’s mentally strong.

It’s the level of criticism though.

The tribal nature of football and this social media age coupled together can produce a lot of toxicity.

Talking about how much money he earns is frankly irrelevant in part because the scale of criticism or hate he or any other professional athlete can face is exponentially higher to your average Joe and can be amplified to ridiculous levels.

Some professions you know what can come with the territory and it’s not going to change.

You gotta accept loads of people gonna say mean things about you.

Just remember loads of people don’t swim in the money you earn and just ignore the banter and comments if it’s too much for you.

If I were Maguire I’d make a shirt with Slabhead written on the back of it and drive around in my brand new Lambo. :pinched_fingers:t6:

The criticism level is too high for a player who has performed well on the international level.
