Manchester United

CL final;

Won 2 group stage games

Went through 2 of 3 knockout games on away goals

Totally uncompetitive in the final

Least deserves run to the final of any team in recent memory

Problem with United is it takes 1- 2 losses and it’s absolute calamity. Media ramps up and the crowd loses their neve. I think Poch buckles as soon as United goes through their usual down period. It took down seasoned coaches in Mourinho and LvG.

The CM pairing was Winks and Sissoko in the final… That team def performed way above expectations getting to the final and that’s because of Poch, you can’t caveat their path there

But the very same squad gave up on him by October the following season.
How do you lose a squad that’s not high on ego that quick.

Spurs did have (in hindsight) 2 bad windows back to back tbf. Caught up on them.

Insert obligatory comment about Daniel Levy always one step away from screwing it all up.

Post CL final loss hangover. It’s hard for a club like Spurs to bounce back from such a difficult loss with zero European pedigree

I honestly believe he lost them in that no show of a final.
Even made that mistake of rushing Kane to start. Kane actually on game time was better handled by Mourinho.

I’ll conceed that actually. Fit kane and Moura it would have been closer contest

We now know that LFC 11 was stacked with genuine WC players in every spot

Yep, factor in the fact that Poch hadn’t signed a player for 18 months and you’ve got a remarkable route to the final (highlighted by some truly epic games with Man City and Ajax)

I’m with @Stroller (as he’s aforementioned) that Spurs’ run in the league was very, very bad in the following season.

I’d still take Poch in a heartbeat here, though.

The way that game went, Kane from the bench could been massive on the night.
Moura had earned the right to start that game.

I don’t think Kane does much even off of the bench, he was a statue for the whole game.

Poch let his team down by not making the decision in the best interests of the team, like you said Moura earned the right to play and unlike Kane he could threaten with his pace and good form.

Kane wasn’t fit to play a bit part let alone start and play the whole match and it was clear as day.

My opinion of Poch has taken a substantial hit after watching PSG play this season.

The sides they had with those players and particularly when they still had Dembele were fucking quality. So glad those days are over.

Oh yeah, I was a huge admirer of him until his tenure at PSG. He’s pretty much the Spurs of managers.

The oiling was done by Pochentino.

I am with @sevchenko an average manager doesn’t get that kind of output from Spurs.

That’s the thing though was it just the perfect storm with those players at the right time or is that something he can replicate? I used to think that it was almost a given at one point but not so sure now.

PSG is a poisoned chalice but the football has been utter trash at times over and over, I expected more with the players he has at his disposal.

He deserves credit for what he did with Spurs but that may be his peak and with a selection of players he had at the time, if he doesn’t bag the United job then I don’t know where he goes from here.

Everton like a big name manager and Lampard won’t be there for long. :grinning:

Atletico maybe at some point or possibly Newcastle at the next phase.
That could come quickly at a money doped club.

I hope this guy is right.

However I just don’t understand why United fans don’t like their owners from financial perspective.
Yes they take out money from the club but they spend a lot into the squad.
If they were taking money out while not spending into the squad, I would understand but They have spent more than City & Chelsea in recent years.

Do they expect their owners to be completely charitable and never take a penny out of the club.

This is what every fan seems to expect so I don’t know why United fans would be any different.

People were going crazy at the Kroenkes giving 2 million to some company they own for some telecom contract or some shit.
