Lucas Torreira

I always forget about Saúl at DM. Good point. Still think their plan is to have Torreira replace Herrera, not replace Partey.

Torreira will be a bench player for them. It’s just about getting his wages off the books for a year, and hopefully a sale in the end. Not too bad.

Yeah, I agree. We have basically zero leverage because the player obviously is not in our plans and only has eyes for Atleti.

The bigger picture is that no English club is having any success selling abroad because the players are on relatively high wages and the clubs abroad are all shitting themselves at the prospect of another year without revenue from fans in stadiums, so they’re hoarding cash and avoiding obligatory financial commitments next summer. Chelsea can’t shift the likes of Emerson or Bakayoko and had to loan rather than sell Barkley, Spurs can’t sell Aurier or Dele and will have to loan Sessegnon somewhere, United can’t sell any of their thousand pieces of deadwood (except maybe Smalling, who was legitimately one of the best CBs in Serie A last year and already has a really good relationship with Roma), the only player City may sell is a young talented CB they didn’t want to lose.

The whole situation is very poorly timed for a club like Arsenal that needs to generate funds for rebuilding the squad.

Any information on the loan fee?

From Torreira’s point of view, he is going to a decent La Liga side and has a very good chance of winning trophies there.
They have invested more than most European clubs in this window and are clearly ambitious so that’s why they want to get Torreira and keep Partey.

We aren’t that attractive to top players so why would Partey want to leave a top European club like Atletico to come here?

Think we may have to wait and see if this means anything around Partey before passing fair judgment tbh.

You would think we don’t let him go without getting in another midfielder that can do the things he can do.

But then Arsenal is a lunatic club.

And what actually is it he can do? Seems like he spent most of his PL career being bullied tbh.

Who’s their most attacking midfielder? I’d imagine Atletico saw him lighting it up as our no10 of sorts and have decided to run with it.

Torreira is a frozen out player that wants out, Partey is a 1st teamer who by all accounts seems satisfied at Atletico. We were never gonna get the better end of this.

I guess what he is meant to do. ‘win the ball in midfield and start attacks’

It’s been reported Atletico is adament on not selling Partey. Cant imagine they would do Arsenal a favor by Arsenal loaning them Torreira. Only reason I think they’ve gone for this is making room for Aouar. 32 players on the books that would seem necessary to make a signing.

They were never wanting to sell him. But he has a release clause. We pay that there’s nothing they can do.

And we had better now.

A player benched was because he “does not fit into such and such planning”.
What a fucktart management.

I don’t think it’s a case of tactical accommodation.
We have been playing with two static midfielders who rarely venture forward.

Torreira can easily do that role.
I don’t know the real reason why he is not in our plans but we have hardly seen any formation or tactics that Torreira can’t perform for.

His ball progression is poor and his ball winning isn’t nearly good enough to make up for it. He also looks like he gets bullied by bigger players. 2 managers now have benched him

Any end is better than nothing but we’re not getting either.

I just don’t think he wants to be here.

He can go to a top European club with a world class, successful manager, that wants to compete at the highest level, or stay at a club that is quite happy to drift above mid table.

It’s a difficult choice but I have a feeling that playing for Simeone and alongside top players, might just edge it over over staying here.

Did you see the Xhaka/Elnany bullying our opponents or not bullying by others?

He lacks the burst of pace shorter defensive midfielders need in this league to be a nuisance over the pitch.

I won’t judge too harshly I think he was completely underused and its pathetic management and the loan is complete cheeks.

Xhaka is our best passing midfield. And both are bigger players who aren’t pushed off the ball as easy. It’s not that Elneny is better than Torreira but he’s on a lesser wage and the manager doesn’t rate him much lower, which says it all.
