Yep fully agree. I feel if you’re gonna be a midget in this league, you have to have exceptional technical ability ala Cazrola/Hazard, or great ball winning and insane stamina like Kante. I think Lucas possesses neither hence why he’s out of favour here.

As for Xhaka a better passer, proof? He has more long passing than Torreira which is true, but he missed a lot as well.

I think it’s more a case of Torreira not being very good and saleable tbh
What a pissweak club, loan deal with no obligation to buy.
Only way that’s in any way decent is if Torreira was on 150k wages which we’d be clearing for the season, which of course he isn’t.

I still can’t get my head around this deal and what it actually achieves for us.
We don’t get a transfer fee, no obligation to buy in 12 months, nor are we clearing substantial wage.

Yeah it’s just rather frustrating, I just can’t fathom us not being able to sell Torreira for 20-25 million quid to get some funds in now.
If his name was Luke Taylor we could have gotten 30m + for him.
It may just be as simple as Torreira wanting to play football and get into the national team for WC22 qualification. Arteta might have told him that there’s no real place for him here, so he’s decided to leave.
As fans we complain all the time about guys like Ozil not leaving to pursue first team football but Torreira is doing exactly that.

You change the word option to obligation and this becomes a positive deal, as it stands it’s just a other asset we are wasting.

Financially this may not achieve what we want, but in terms if foreign players, this helps. Signing any new foreign players means we have to offload some as the numbers don’t add up.
How do we force Atletico to accept that? For all we know we asked and they balked. So let’s say we insist on an obligation to buy, they walk away from the deal and we are left with a player we don’t have any interest in using. It’s a lousy situation. And I’m not defending the club, Shammy, I feel your frustration. This is like all the other dumb deals we’ve done, Perez loan to WHU, the Arshavin loan back to Russia, the seven thousand loans Campbell did. It’s all amateur hour. So far Edu has shown he’s basically an empty suit.
