“I don’t know if there’s a lot of things that I’m enjoying because I think I liked living in Italy more,” he told a press conference. "London is a completely different world. England is a very big country.
“I had trouble with the language, communicating with my team-mates and with the people. It’s pretty rough in certain moments when you can’t have any dialogue, that’s the most important part.”
“The weather is also difficult,” Torreira added. "You go out in the morning and it’s cloudy and you get back after training and it’s still cloudy.
“I miss the sun. Mostly us South Americans are used to having sunny days. But I think I’ll get used to it as the years go by.”
Meh. I would be shocked if he went anywhere and he seemed to say the same at the end of the article.
Torreira will be a key player for us in the next few years. He plays a very high energy game but he clearly wasn’t physically ready for the demands of the Premier League schedule last year. His whole career in Italy was basically just playing once a week for 90 minutes. Now he is playing twice a week in a more physically demanding league and the fatigue clearly set in during the festive period and then during the run in. But I think if he can adjust physically then he can still be a massive player for us. He is exactly the type of extremely mobile but still quite technical all around midfielder that you need in the contemporary game.
It’s ok Lucas, we understand.
You don’t have to pretend you don’t like the weather.
Just tell us the truth.
You don’t like playing in a midfield comprising of Xhaka, Iwobi, Guendouzi and an under performing Ozil, in front of one of the worst defences of any top club in Europe.
You want to play for a club playing in the CL with an an owner that doesn’t treat investing in players as an occupational hazard.
You are just the latest in a very long line of top players that knows what’s really going on.
What took you so long.
Couldnt agree more. I find it disgusting and cringeworthy everytime these multimillion footballers with their model girlfriends complain and whine about some clouds and fresh air. They act like its Alaska like conditions ffs.
Fuck the weather in Northwest-Europe tbh. If I had the resources to relocate to a better climate I wouldn’t think twice about that. For these guys it’s an actual option to consider because their money/type of work gives them that. We are stuck.
You really don’t understand how important is to us to be living in a sunny place. That’s all we know for at least half a year. Been outside on the beach or on the street at least, going late to sleep or being around people talking and knowing eachother. Italy is more easy for south americans because our ancestors came from there so meanwhile the language i’s not the same (although some words are the same or mostly the same) the feeling of being in a familiar place are enormous.
That’s fair enough but shouldn’t he, or his agent, thought of that before he signed for an English club?
What did he think the weather in North London was like?
Morocco?
I think there’s a little misinterpretation of his words. You can not like the weather or having a rough time adapting to the city but that’s doesn’t mean you wanna quit on it and go elsewhere. It’s just a period of adaptation and nothing more. And doing it meanwhile you’re playing it’s more easily to pass trough it.
Jesus Christ I wish more people would react rationally to articles like this (the inclusion of more is in recognition of those acting rationally). It was either the most boring interview ever or they have only published a very pointed part of it and they didn’t even give the context of what question he was asked to get those quotes.
I don’t think he just rang goal and gave some unsolicited quotes.
