It still blows my mind, the come down this guy had after his first 6 months when he looked like he could be a real linchpin for us. He really did look like exactly what we’d been missing, it’s just so unbelievable how quickly he fell out of favor but he never really wanted to play in England and mentally just couldn’t settle I guess. Still think he’s a pretty good player who will do well somewhere if he’s focused.

He was great when he first signed.
I legitimately thought we signed a baller when he came as can remember a former member on here always posted about him and him being a dream signing.

What would be enough commitment for you? Does he have to run around like Xhaka, sliding into tackles and getting sent off?
It’s also not his job to be considerate of the club’s financial position. He’s an employee.
Sometimes a transfer just doesn’t work. The English league is different from the French league or Italian league or American league. I also think sometimes we underestimate how difficult it is to move to a different country. England can be a tough place to live. Not settling there or feeling unhappy doesn’t make him weak, it makes him human.
And let’s not pretend Arteta ever really wanted to use him. It’s not as if Arteta begged him to stay and he refused to report to training. We signed a £50m player who ostensibly plays his position. He didn’t have a shot in hell of making the field.
Wish he wasn’t going the Lazio though. I’ll definitely judge him for that.

Easily one of the most disappointing transfers considering how basically everything looked great about this signing. If this type of signing is failing this hard and the likes of Guendouzi, Saliba etc are for whatever reason also not working out I’m left wondering when the fuck we’ll have success building young players we’re investing all this money in.
Was half hoping he’d be forced to stay and knuckle down given our lack of midfield options.
