Kai Havertz (29)

It’s mostly because the club have hit on the majority of the players they’ve signed since the new regime arrived on the scene but make no mistake there are red flags galore here and there is a high chance of bust factor yet again.

Just find it funny that people are all in when he was the butt of jokes for damn near his whole Chelsea tenure.

Now it’s cool for us to spunk £60m on him on a big contract, that’s the transfer window for you

It’s worth watching his Leverkusen highlights. He is a talented player and its not hard to imagine him in either Odegaard or Saka’s position or backing up Jesus and being part of a fluid front three.

Even though he is kind of skinny, at 6’3 he would give us an aerial threat to put up top when chasing a match and pumping balls into the box, which we don’t really have currently.

I think he’s not in our best XI but its a squad game now and he would play a ton between all these roles for a team in four competitions.

Doesn’t look like the same player at all when compared to how he played in the Bundesliga

Too many busts from that league for it to have any real significance, what’s he done in damn near 3 years in the PL?

He’s also not an intense player or someone who looks to have a killer mentality, that for me is one of the biggest red flags concerning him

Largely been played out of position as a striker by a series of incompetent (excepting Tuchel) managers setting up dysfunctional teams.

I’m not saying there’s not risk but there is a lot of upside here too and the alternatives are guys like Diaby and Kudus who also come with a lot of risk. Or hoping that Fabio Vieira puts on 30 pounds and grows a set.

Why do you think that is though?

People mention his versatility but in reality he seems to be someone who can’t nail down a set position and instead gets played up top due to lack of a bona fide striker.

I saw this video doing the rounds a few weeks ago. But now Chelsea fans have done a complete 180 on him with all the links to Arsenal and it’s open season on Havertz

definitely a better playmaker than a finisher.

God knows why managers want him to play #9

I think he had a bad start at Chelsea because they bought him without any vision whatsoever of how the team would set up. Lampard already had Mount as his favorite son as the most attacking midfielder in his three man midfield and then they bought him Havertz and Ziyech who all sort of played in the same spaces. Then Havertz immediately got Covid and so his start was kind of fucked in general. Then Tuchel came in and started playing him as a CF because he didn’t have one that he liked. Following year Tuchel started by moving him back to attacking midfielder on the right, but then Lukaku quickly turned into a disaster so again it was Havertz going up top. Then this year again he starts off playing more as an attacking midfielder but Auba turns out to be a disaster so Potter again moves Havertz to CF in a team that is totally dysfunctional in all ways.

If I club believe in the signing like that then ultimately I’ll rock with it.

There has been a lot of dysfunction there as you said but like I mentioned things that are just innate in players like mentality and intensity look to be lacking big time there. That’s something that you normally either have or you don’t, he doesn’t strike me as someone that has that dog in him.

Right now the standards are high and need to be maintained, going for league titles against City is no joke and so signing someone like him just rubs me up the wrong way on the face of it.

Havertz for 60m+ just isn’t a good deal. Yeah there are factors at Chelsea as to why he’s been shit but let someone else take the chance on him.

Rather have mount n that’s saying something.

It’s a pass on havertz for me

An actual viable system could potentially aid him greatly.

If it goes ahead I just hope he’s up for the fight, we don’t need fairweather guys or another Ozil type albeit not as talented.

We aren’t spending 60m for Havertz to ride bench.

Zinny inverts and White stays back. Would work against a ot of teams at home.

Havertz has more legs, lungs and guile than Xhaka but none of the defensive attributes.

All his highlights are about passing, vision, interchanging, positioning…

If coaches use him as a striker because of his height, that’s plain stupid

Tbf, Xhaka didn’t really have defensive attributes before Arteta. Dude wasn’t rarely bothering going in for challenges, and that’s a good thing because when he did he usually ended up getting sent off.

Arteta has helped a lot of players in that department. Kola actually learned to defend. Mustafi’s brain farts stopped happening so often, same with Luiz.

For all the bad that comes with Havertz he has a good physical profile. He’s relatively quick for his height and he’s actually very good in the air. With some direction and an actual position he can stick to finally at club level, we may see him grow a bit and build on his game off and on the ball.

I think the main reason he was used as a striker was because there wasn’t anyone better for whatever his managers wanted.

Gone are the days where Germany pumped out great #9s. Chelsea have been struggling finding the right striker themselves. Tuchel didn’t like Tammy, nor did he like Lukaku. Same for Werner tbh. Havertz was by default the guy everyone seemed to rely on.
