Kai Havertz (29)

Yes, if Arteta wants to go big on Havertz, I’d be confused but confident that there is a plan.

Just the flops from Chelsea. I hated Willian (still do), hated the idea of Jorginho although in practice he was probably underused, Havertz is probably somewhere between the two. He’s a flop but still young enough to maybe be rehabilitated. The issue for me is the money. Yeah, it’s not my money blah blah blah, but we know the club has a budget and that a lot of that budget has been earmarked for Declan Rice. Do we want to sign a guy who is a false nine, false winger, sometimes false footballer for 70m? Do we want to waste time negotiating with Chelsea over the fee?

I liked the Odegaard signing for what it’s worth. Wanted him over Maddison and that’s worked out pretty well.

This is more like Arteta/Edu/owner/club’s concern than ours.
If they can pay it they can pay it.
If they cannot or think not worth it, we won’t pay that amount.

Inhouse Premier League signings are happening all the time now. You need to forget who he plays for and give them a chance.

Well yeah, that’s why I said it’s not my money. But I’d prefer we spend our limited resources elsewhere. If we spent money signing Nelson to a new contract in order to give us more rotation options on the wing, why are we also signing a guy who plays on the wing? What was the point of signing Trossard if Havertz comes in. Is Havertz that much better than Trossard? Or is he just another option? I’m all for strength in depth but Havertz is most definitely not a goal scoring striker, he’s a fraudulent nine which means we’re not really adding any firepower.

Chelsea asking absurd amounts for Havertz and Mount shows just how desperate they really are imho.

Still fuck em.

Well to @Calum 's point I think it does mean that we’ll see more transfer movement between the top six to eight clubs than we have in the past. Who else are they going to sell to for big money? PSG, Madrid, maybe Barcelona and, for now, the Saudi league. That’s it.

Suddenly Todd Boehly talking about trades might make more sense for the executives at ManU.

maybe we have 300m budget this summer?

It’s nice that we’re in a situation where we are a step up from Chelsea again

And yet we’re still taking our their trash. The whole point of a rehab project is buying low. That’s what we did with Odegaard. Edu is on dentist level nitrous if he’s going to pay 70m for Havertz.

We won’t pay £70m. But either way, I don’t think we can certify that Havertz is trash.

Exactly, he’s not an upgrade on any of our players so If Real Madrid won’t pay more than 50m for him, why would we?

Doing well in the Bundesliga means little to nothing

Hilarious that people who would have been taking the absolute piss out of this dude all season long are now advocating we sign him

What would you grade him at Chelsea though? B-/C? B+? It’s not like he’s been great. And while he has PL experience so did Charlie Adam. Doesn’t really mean much to me.

He’s an interesting physical profile for sure but he’s not quite the physical profile of a guy like Toney who would allow us to go Hard Brexit at times, so you’d have to think he’s being earmarked for either the wing or midfield. Could he play in midfield with Rice and Odegaard, maybe with Rice and Partey? It’s just not that exciting for me.

Have zero clue what the club is doing on this one.

Kai just isnt that guy. Certainly not a piece worthy of £70m, better options out there for what Arteta is trying to accomplish

I would take Hakim Zyech over this waster.

Woah woah woah, let’s not go crazy here.

I certainly don’t think we would pay 70m.

But let’s say we could get him for 50m and 150k per week wages or something. What are the better options if the problem to solve is a player (preferably left footed) that can cover both Saka and Odegaard and do it relatively well starting next fall rather than needing several years to develop?

You’re getting warmer although Loserkusen allegedly want 65m for Diaby…seems like a better player imo. But again, we all know Bundesliga success means relatively nothing. Look at Havertz and Werner.

Jacob Steinberg has the same story. I don’t think this would come out if personal terms weren’t agreed.

Given how aggressive Arsenal have been this window, I think we end up meeting in the middle and paying Chelsea £55m-£60m
