Kai Havertz (29)

Been in great form lately

The goal last night was superb

Glad he’s found some form in front of goal. The goal itself was a confident finish, a shot he probably doesn’t take early in the season.

That part :point_up_2:

Playing him as a midfielder with a player like Nketiah clogging up the space is probably a no go for him too.

We’ve played top notch football with him as a striker or a midfielder.
He occupies similar spaces anyway.

Hos understanding of the game allows him to be so flexible. People laughed at him for starting at left back for Germany but he looked good there too and even scored while doing that.

£60m starting to sound very cheap for an asset at his age, with his potential, with his versatility and durability(most games alongside White and Rice).

Similar but he definitely occupying centre backs more than previous.

For Ødegaard’s goal he is unquestionably the 9.

Great finish last night, shocker of a miss the last time out. It’s the one bit he still just isn’t natural at and needs to work on if he’s playing this 9 role.

Clearly got it in him as we saw yesterday, shot selection just fails him sometimes.

Knew from the beginning

Confident finish and a really, really nice take from Jorgi’s effortless pass over the top. Only saw extended highlights but he really looks to be apart of the fabric of our play now. Not the clunky player we saw at the beginning of the season.

From day one I was just asking people to give him time to adapt and settle down.
Lad had like five managers in 3 seasons and didn’t matter what positions he played, it was not easy to go through that many changes.
It was quite fair to give him a review in mid season, and then at season end; rather being emotional and critical in a game by game status.

His transfer fee was another stupid argument.
You only judge a player’s fee when he is done with the club, like Pepe.

I remember calling that he and Werner wouldn’t do well at Chelsea.
I used to call Kai a James Charles lookalike.

Personally I seriously started second-guessing myself on him when I saw both Madrid and Bayern were interested in him despite his time at Chelsea.

As much as I disliked him, he always seemed to step up in the CL and the same was for Germany. He just looked like a different player in those settings so there was definitely something there.
I naively put him in that Felix category of players that had the talent but not the application. I thought he was perhaps selectively deciding to step up when the spotlight was on.

Having looked into a bit more after the rumours propped up though, I quickly realized that it wasn’t the case.
Every manager of his relied on him. His off the ball metrics were top notch.

And then of course you have the Arteta cosign, Arteta would never push for a player like he did with Kai if his application was in question.

I was wrong on him also.
Never thought he could do a job as a striker.

Of course, Arteta made some adjustment on his role and the team setup, Kai plays more like a false 9 than an actual striker which benefits him most.

His average position when he plays as a striker or an #8 is almost the same. It’s very similar role he has with minor adjustments.

Still not 100% sold on the guy, but he’s certainly doing a lot of right things atm.

so funny that in the end, he plays pretty much the “same” position… but as a LCM, he tends to track back more deep in our own zone.

Do we really need 100% sold?
70-80% already good enough?

I would say I am 50/50.

not bad :joy:

I’ve tended to be of the thinking that Havertz functions better as a #9. Ball striking still needs work, but it’s certainly something that can be improved upon.

Even if he does miss a few 1v1s, the fact he’s in that position is a bigger win for me.

If you look at Havertz’ touch maps when he is listed as the left 8 and there is a false 9 like Trossard and his touches when listed as our striker, they’re really not that different. I think its kind of the same position just with slightly different emphases and defensive responsibilities.
