That’s my point.
But the transfer fee is pre agreed. That is huge.
Well it can be agreed. There isn’t only one way of doing it. If I remember correctly we had an ability to match for Fabregas rather than that. And none of it can happen without all parties agreeing from the outset. The Idea that we can just lash these into outgoing contracts is completely false. Which I’d imagine isn’t news to you.
Matching is a garbage clause though. Bad negotiating. The point is if you take the position that a buyback is pointless bc it is still up to player, that is same thing as saying any transfer agreement between teams is pointless.
Pretty much. Sell on fees are the best of a bad bunch when it comes to clauses in this area.
Many clubs have lost gems from their academy, Arsenal’s not the only one. It kind of sucks that we’re supposed to be the team that gives people a chance but there are 11 to choose and 3(or 4) subs each game.
Jeff never did it for me anyway. Not gonna lie though, I’m envy of PSG recently making 40m for 3 academy players that weren’t gonna make it.
Every big club will have someone like JRA on the books who does little with the few chances he gets, doesn’t stand out, gets sold for peanuts to a tiny club and then does well enough to attract the interest of bigger clubs (assuming the reports are true for a start)
I think why some of our fans are complaining is because it seems to fit with the pattern of us doing badly in the transfer market. You see Liverpool selling their Solanke’s and Ibe’s for good money, you also see other clubs getting big money for their stars when they are selling, like Chelsea with Hazard who only had one year left on his deal, whereas it definitely feels like we very rarely get decent money for the players we ship out compared to our rivals.
I understand why people might rant about JRA because on the surface it looks like more poor transfer/player asset management. I don’t think it particularly is a case of that, but I can absolutely see why people might reflexively lump it in with the myriad of other examples of us managing our assets poorly and failing to get value for them. It looks like part of that same pattern, superficially at least, imo.
Impressive post that mate, especially this time in the morning. Triple whammy if you done it on public transport. Very true though.
What a move for Jeff!
Would that mean our buy-back clause disappears?
Depends on how contract was written, but guessing yes.
Did we have a sell-on?
Yea think we’ve a sell on rather than a buy back.
:raul:
I hope so. That’s allot of money
Thought he’d be a starter for us when we signed him, looked a huge talent that preseason
I think he should of got more chances here
I agree, It was obvious the kid was very naturally talented. Raw and needed polish. Poor management if you ask me.
I feel the whole hype around JRA is purely based on this pre-season meanlingless Emirates Cup game. After and during the game OA Matchday Chat was a complete Adelaide Jizzfest (myself included probably). Honestly what other games did he impress in, for us?
I remember him starting a couple of Carling Cup matches and looked average. Maybe he had a lengthy injury prior to that, don’t remember.
At his time here yes you’re probably right. But he’s still only 21 and has Lyon who are pretty good in the market willing to shill out up to 30m on here. And he looks to have some silky stuff here
Agree fully. Same with Zelalem.
His highlights below are so good. I like how JRA looks to accelerates the game and yet does it such an effortless style. I hope he keeps improving at Lyon.
