Ivan Toney

a signing to take us over the line in Jan, smart move

I’d love to have him here.

what about his attitude though. I am not saying that he has a bad attitude but could his head drop after his punishment. Also could he continue with betting after this because it is an addiction and could there be further punishments from it that keeps him out of playing further down the line.

I just don’t see him as a player that Arteta would sign.

I get that feeling as well. Feels like Arteta doesn’t tolerate any descent or bad behavior from players. The gambling is a concern but it’s not clear whether Tony is a difficult player to deal with or not.

I think the age of Toney is the biggest barrier to us making a bid.

Hmm, I don’t see this transfer any different than the Trossard signing in January. They’re roughly the same age right? Neither will start every game here, but their impact can’t be understated.

Wonder who else is out there.

I can however, see us going big for a world class striker next Summer if Jesus/Eddie are unable to deliver the goal contributions expected.

Toney would be great for us and, because he’s different to Jesus, would be a very useful alternative.
But with so many clubs looking for a PL proven goal scorer, he isn’t going to be cheap so it’s unlikely we’re going to be spending around 80m on a rotation player.

Think he’ll only have 18 months left on his deal in January, isn’t his betting fiasco going to have an impact on his price?

Hopefully not.

It could do, but there are so few proven strikers in the PL, that his value will still be high.
If Toney has that level of consistency at a newly promoted club like Brentford, he could do a lot more at a bigger club and there won’t be any shortage of potential buyers.

I was surprised we didn’t try earlier in the summer and offer players as well as even though those swap deals never actually happen.

Urgh. Would be stomach turning. Don’t want a gambling addict here.

Why? And who said that he’s a addict? He simply breached the rules of gambling. He was averaging 1 to 2 bets a week I believe. Hardly the sign of addiction.

If that’s the level, we’ve got alcoholics in our match day squads.

Literally everyone including Toney himself.

I’d go and get a pre ban ending deal done for Toney.
He’s a big intimidating player. The ban may well stop him from playing, training but he’s keeping himself fit . He’ll do a job for any team .

According to the FA’s document, had Toney not pleaded guilty to the charges against him, the FA would have imposed a 15-month ban starting from the beginning of next season, “to properly reflect the seriousness of the offences admitted including betting on one’s own team to lose, albeit he was not playing”.

By pleading guilty and showing “genuine remorse”, however, he is seen to have saved substantial time and cost, leading to a 25 per cent reduction to 11 months.

I repeat if one bet a week is addiction, we’ve got a squad full of alcoholics. Welcome Ivan Toney.

He’s literally a diagnosed addict.

I give up.
