But we have Super Mik Arteta helping to get the most from him. Our players also typically create a ton of chances per game, much higher than most clubs do.
That’s quite a specific set of criteria buddy.
Bar Kane, Salah (I think) and Aguero, which Premier League strikers have regularly scored 20 - 30 Prem goals without penalties?
Thats a high bar
Super Mik Arteta didn’t even manage to get Jesus to score a bucket load so where’s the evidence that he’d suddenly turn Toney into a mega scorer?
It’s a reasonable question to ask.
When in Football has there ever been an example of a player who doesn’t have a massive goalscoring record suddenly becoming a big goalscorer just because he moved to a bigger club that creates more chances?
Jesus is always injured, unfortunately I still think we haven’t seen the best from him yet.
Even before he was injured - he had a very long goal drought.
I’m not saying he has to accomplish that without penalties. I’m saying that he isn’t a proven goalscorer to the extent that I’d back him to be a player capable of scoring as many as 30 goals in the league.
I’m including penalties in the total goal tally I think he’ll manage here.
Ivan Toney does have a big goal scoring record and it’s a disingenuous question because top teams tend to not sign strikers from lower teams if they don’t have a scoring record.
Toney outscored Jesus and Nketiah combined last season in a poor Brentford team. We were in a title race with two strikers who scored less than 14 goals from open play (I don’t get why this is a thing). Add Toney to our squad and the likelihood is he scores more in our system.
I read that Toney was referred for help with a gambling addiction.
Being a cynical cunt, is a guy with an addiction of that nature somebody you trust to be mentally on top of his game, and rely on to perform?
From a risk perspective, I wouldn’t want anything to potentially disrupt the harmony and single-mindedness of the squad. Arteta has like some hive mind shit going on there. This could fuck that up.
Well, part of addiction recovery is accepting responsibility for your actions.
He hasn’t harmed anyone but broke the rules of a professional footballer rather than rules of society.
But is he any worse than the ex spurs striker and England captain who has persistently cheated all through his career and is held up as some sort of model professional?
The thing here is that it’s not been shown that Toney was a gambling addict. It appeared that he had/has a habit and was a breach of professional conduct.
Hello Chelsea, Man City, Juventus etc
Yes.
But I would have a different opinion had he accepted his responsibility, apologised and did everything he could to rectify the situation.
Obviously what Toney is wrong as well as stupid but is pretty harmless.
When Kane cheats, it gives him an unfair advantage against his fellow professionals, which is far worse, and because he’s never called out for it in the media, he continues to do it.
Just finished his podcast interview.
In a world where chelsea/man city have spent the last however many years cooking their books to buy on field success with complete disregard for the game, a world where for years Real Madrid were bank rolled by the bank of Madrid and Barca were well, just Barca (cheating cunts), we now have Newcastle, I absolutely would fucking take Ivan Toney, a proven PL goalscorer. Morals in football died a death a long time ago and people are up in arms about some fucking rich bloke playing silly buggers with the bookies. Dull cunt? Yes! Do a job for us up front to help us potentially win trophies? Fuck yes!
This! Bring him here and he’ll score goals. Goals win games. We win games = more points. More points = more titles!
Yes, fucking please.
