There is a real sense of security in being radical on this issue, I think. I see it with both my Jewish friends/family and some of the lefty circles as well. It offers a sort of clarity for folks even if I think it’s a total mirage.
For example, you could have someone staunchly pro-Israel justify the blockade in Gaza, the wall, indiscriminate shelling (because you just can’t be that precise in such a dense area), checkpoints and etc. by saying that it’s the price Palestinians pay for wanting to destroy Israel.
Similarly, I read an op-ed from a Palestinian author whose position was that (to paraphrase) a colonialist is a colonialist whether they’re in or out of uniform. Suggesting that to take any position other than any and all action to resist the occupation is a betrayal.
I have a lot of very complex feeling and thoughts on this which I plan on sharing but just haven’t had the time yet. It’s been a really just painful few days.
Lol I meant secure in the emotional sense but yeah I agree, there’s nothing to suggest that the way the Israeli government has deliberately marginalized the PA and elevated Hamas while also squeezing Gaza created a situation that was more secure for the public.
Do you really think a nation, which has been in conflict with Arab nations for the last 75 years, will have citizens without Arab hatred?
Their existence was threatened by Arab nations, their water resources were plotted to be removed.
They have done really well as a nation and the only thing that holds them back is their conflict with Arabs.
Each time an Israeli celebrity achieves international fame, they are subjected to have a say in this conflict and bombarded with hate.
I would be extremely surprised to not see such a reaction from Israelis.
I couldn’t say how prevalent that level of outright racism is but I think it’s important to point out that those ultra religious wackadoos are always hanging around in Jerusalem by the wall and the entrance to the Temple Mount. They were there when I lived in Israel which was in 2005. They’d chant some vile stuff including the very pithy “the only good Arab is a dead Arab” or “no Arabs, no terror attacks” (which rhymes in Hebrew).
What I encountered way more was a kind of apathy towards the Palestinians and more subtle racism.
They pre-date MAGA! The weird fusion of militant nationalism with Jewish orthodoxy isn’t terribly different than folks who dream of creating some Muslim utopia across the whole Middle East.
“To have some people celebrate atrocious indiscriminate killing and kidnapping in Israel is appalling,” he said.
“This is the opposite of the dynamic multicultural community we want in NSW and Australia. Racial epithets were thrown at the Jewish community by the mere fact that they were members of the Jewish community which is shocking and abusive and potentially a crime.”
I think on that one discreet issue – the religious utopia – it’s a decent comp.
^ The term “greater Israel” or literally translated “The full Land of Israel” is in a map at this link. But because nothing is ever really that straightforward with some sects of Judaism and the way it mixes with Nationalism and politics, it’s possible that some of the people in that video would outright reject being labeled as “Revisionist Zionists”.
Hamas politburo chairman Ismail Haniyeh is not in Gaza right now. He, like many other militant heads, left Gaza Strip a couple of weeks before the attack began. Here he is pictured with Khaled Mashal.
Fucks like these and many government leaders the world over happily send the commoners to their deaths. Themselves safely sitting somewhere else enjoying luxury.
They care about it insofar as it’s a great recruitment area for them. With all the trauma and death inflicted on the Palestinians, it wont be hard to find some angry men with retribution on their minds.
