George Graham built a fortress, with solid walls , a look out with defenders of the realm , attackers who would fire yet defend the fortress… Wenger went to Ikea and Homebase , added furnishings and wallpaper oh and some decking stain to that fortress but sadly Wenger never kept the upkeep of that fortress , now the walls are crumbling, dry rot has crept in …

Why’s Wenger been mentioned :joy:

He gave this club the greatest night it’s ever had.

But, hey, let’s forget all that because he managed spurs :man_facepalming:

Who’s said that?

You did, dickhead

No, I didn’t. I said he’s not in a very specific discussion because of it. The two things aren’t remotely alike.

Could you imagine how much hatred Ash would have for Wenger if the man ever rocked up to manage spurs and how much of a stick he would use that to beat him with :face_with_hand_over_mouth::grin:

Ash doesn’t hate Wenger.

I mean when it comes to the embodyment of Arsenal, the shortlist would include:

Wenger, Graham, Wright, Adams, Henry and Bergkamp. Maybe adding Fabregas and Vieira to that list. Obviously Herbert Chapman, although that’s not in anyones memory here.

Graham himself won everything for Arsenal as both a player and a manager, which is a rare commodity and I don’t think anyone else has done that in the clubs history. Not only that, but having won the double, we didn’t win the title again until he managed the club, where we did it twice, with cup and European wins all on top. I’d imagine anyone living through both periods ranks him number 1.

Graham only managed Spurs because Arsenal sacked him. Henry, Vieira and Fabregas all left voluntarily and Adams considered moving to Man United. It really is a footnote when you consider the history he has at Arsenal and the irrelevence of his time at Spurs.

It’s a perfectly fine post you’ve made there but the embodiment of Arsenal can’t have managed spurs. It’s that simple, he’s disqualified.

Fwiw I’d put David Dein on the list too.

How about Pat Rice?

Exactly this.

Managing Spurs was barely a footnote in a great career for Graham.

Indeed, when Graham came back to Highbury with his Spurs side, there wasn’t unanimous, widespread booing of the great man.

Because booing him would be fucking ridiculous. It’s a footnote but a contextually important one.

I don’t get this part. He managed Spurs a few years after leaving Arsenal, so are you saying he held a grudge for 3 years and took that job to spite us? Playing the long game. That seems a bit petty to me.
