I just dont think there is any scenario where you show an on field ref an incident like that he has missed and he doesn’t show a red.
The reasoning to not call it back is such nonsense.

Reminds of whoever reviewed the Newcastle goal dismissing a potential foul within seconds after seeing a long view of Joelinton shoving Gabriel to the ground.
Glancing is not the intent though and an incident like this is all about intent.
My biggest problem with the audio release is how these officials seem to not understand a lot of the laws they are supposed to be enforcing
Exactly. They’re not even assessing incidents against the laws of the game, which is the core task of refereeing, they’re just making up standards on the spot. Not used as a weapon? WTF is that?
They are looking for reasons not to overturn the on field decision, instead of looking at the situation and applying the laws of the game to it.
I think that is selective too. They are only too happy to overturn some decisions, whilst others they are not. They hide behind clear and obvious which is open to interpretation.
Lee Mason was only too happy to intervene to incorrectly award a foul against Ode in build up to Martinelli goal vs Utd.
Ultimately it looks like PGMOL is full of incompetent officials who struggle to comprehend and therefore enforce the rules.
Did Howard Webb mention anything about adding technology to check whether the ball is out or not?
A simple Go Pro attached to corner flag would solve that.
I doubt anyone watched the whole show but to be fair the technology used isn’t for PGMOL to decide upon. I think even if he had an opinion on it he’d be unlikely to state it publicly.
I get fucking ill just reading this topic. It’s like a fucking nightmare.
Arteta now been charged…what a joke
Arteta now been charged…what a joke
It’s easier for Howard Webb to fine Arteta than clean up his act.
Surprised it took this long to be honest.
You can’t go around saying you dislike 80% of officials as a manager, naturally that thing is going to be charged.
Oh.
In my never ending quest to ensure the correct people get the blame, Webb/PGMOL don’t decide these things, the FA do.
It’s easier for the FA to to fine or issue touch line bans to Arteta rather than clean up the refereeing farce under PGMOL & Howard Webb.
FIFY
Regarding redirecting blame, it’s semantics really. PGMOL is co-owned by the FA, so not exactly like they are these mutually exclusive entities.

That’s a good point. Makes it even more ridiculous imo. The FA have the ability to move away from PGMOL right? They could say that they’re not going to use PGMOL officials until things are reformed.
The only professional competitions the FA run is the FA cup and FA trophy (i think). So thats the only time the FA engage the services of PGMOL. Other orgs like the Premier League and the Football League do likewise for the running of their respective competitions. Not sure how it works once you get into non league but presumably link ups start there again or maybe there are other but more local ref organisations.
Could the PL, EFL and FA start using a different refs organisation or even look at establishing thier own? In theory i suppose they could but I’m not sure how the mechanics of that would work. Its not like they can just do it overnight and presumably there are also contracts in place between the orgs and the refs.
PGMOL are effectively a monopoly but so are the FA and the PL. I think the current set up suits all parties to a large degree and none of them really want to rock the house of cards. If the PL threatened to go elsewhere, would the refs strike? Probably. So it’s a fight they don’t want to have.
Hope Mikel comes out swinging every week from now on.
Was there this much of an uproar after Liverpool asked for a replay? You’d think the FA would be more concerned with the standard of officiating and things like the Mike Dean quotes.
Dunno nate, I can see some strong penalties here. Probably a hefty fine and significant ban, even indefinite if Arteta doesn’t apologize.
