Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Traveled to the disputed area of the country and thus offered his legitimacy from an Armenian standpoint.

The Azerbaijanis claim they have allowed entry to other Armenian athletes without sanction, so this is pure pointscoring tit for tat

Nice, increases our little chance of winning :joy:

weak mentality. No one is going to blow his head off when he steps on Azerbaijani ground lets be honest.

On the contrary, if it was Aubameyang or Lacazette, the club would have persuaded the player to come assuring his safety.

Seems to me that club just didn’t want to bother with the hassle of extra security

I know it’s easy to say ā€œoh it’s only Mkhitaryanā€, but when you look around our squad we have a hell of a lot of ā€œit’s onlyā€¦ā€ players. Mkhitaryan has a good record in the Europa League and on his day can be a handy player.

But yeah, he’s been told he can go. So UEFA will just say it’s our choice not to take him – which I guess is true. Doesn’t change the fact that Baku shouldn’t be hosting the thing in the first place though.

Thoughts?

Over-emotional claptrap.

I’m all for boycotting the final - depending on the score at half-time.

This guy doesn’t care about the Europa League said he would prefer 4th over winning it on one of the arsecasts.

Absolute nonsense from him and I’m not surprised

Exactly, it’s more than a fair indication that he wasn’t starting anyway.

Wonder whos decision it was to be left out?

If it’s his, he’s weak.

But ultimately UEFA are the biggest cunts in this.

That opinion from Gunnerblog doesn’t seem to be too niche either (check the poll below). A boycott is obviously aimed at UEFA but also has repercussions politically. It aligns us with Armenia in this dispute over territory or it would in Azerbaijani’s heads. Can’t take the decision lightly imo.

I don’t think the players would support a boycott for what its worth. I’m not sure Mhki would either (for the team).

From 1,554 voters, 84% would support a boycott with 38% of that 84% supporting it if Chelsea and Arsenal boycotted together.

Pretty easy to say coming from someone who’s typing from the comfort of a desk or whatever.

That he needs to pipe down. We are ambassadors for two dictorial governments.

I think the problem is that UEFA would surely get away with banning us both from European competitions for some time… I think the best approach is to suck it up and play, then organize a group of team leadership to petition for some ā€œapprovalā€ process for venue selection… Baku was a f*ing shambolic choice but I don’t trust UEFA to do the right thing and reform by themselves.

Okay put Aubameyang as the player to miss out and then tell me should be playing it. Its wrong and we have not made enough of a vocal noise about this.
For everyone giving the player the weak mentality call, Im giving the club that title. Whole fucking thing is a fiasco now.

The final next year will be in Poland. At that point everybody will have forgotten about this. Most venues in Europe aren’t a problem at all tbh.

He’s our joint 3rd highest scorer.
