My guy, Gervinho missed an open goal. He was not good. I still donât really know why we signed him. I at least think I understand what Mkhitaryan brings to the table.
âHis problem is that he has visited a military occupied portion of Azerbaijan which in doing so without permission from Azerbijani government.
âThis entails consequences including blacklisted by the government. But he will be able to have security and safety guarantees.
âMy message to Mkhitaryan would be: youâre a footballer, you want to play football? Go to Baku you are safe there, if you want to play the issue then thatâs a different story."
What a fucking disgrace UEFA are for allowing a final of this magnitude to be held in a country where not all athletes will be accepted; this statement is a blatant passive aggressive threat. It basically reads âas long as you shut your mouth and donât do anything stupid, youâll get out alive Henrik.â
Playing devilâs advocate here.
What is wrong with that statement?
If you look at Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict, it isnât exactly black & white as to who is wrong & who is right.
If they banned players from playing, I would have been peeved but considering he is allowed to play and advised to stick to football & not advance any political agenda on the field, I see no issue with that.
Very few countries in this world are in peaceful terms with their neighbours. We canât just remove them from consideration of hosting events.
Why not? Might encourage them to stop being dicks.
The problem with the statement is that itâs totally at their discretion as to what constitutes him furthering a political agenda. Letâs say he wore a t-shirt with the word Armenia on it, will they arrest him for it? Theyâve invited the event into their country and they should take everything that goes with that, no questions asked. Itâs UEFAs job to punish him if he oversteps the mark.
We are speculating here. Perhaps they will or perhaps they wonât.
But why do we even need to go there. If Mkhitaryan behaves professionally, everything will be fine.
You have to police freedom of speech in some regards. Nazi Salutes, Anti Semitism are all frowned upon & are a punishable offense.
If you are entering a country and you are pre-informed to not do certain things, you are to blame yourself if you did exactly that & got punished for it
Thatâs the problem. While thatâs an unknown I donât see how the club can bring him. He could act perfectly and they could still take a dislike to something he does and cause trouble for him. Maybe thatâs true of another player wore an Armenia t-shirt too but I somehow doubt it.
While there is no assurance, we have just had a World cup organized in Russia with heavy racism & homophobia; and everything went well.
So I would like to take confidence from that in thinking, everyone would mind their own business if no one triggered anyone.
All things considered, itâs not a catastrophic blow to our chances but that is not the point. Imagine if Mkhitaryan had been our key player, or a player with much greater standing in the world game. Imagine if Pogba or Hazard were in the same situation? The outcry would be massive and I feel for Mkhitaryan here. Being deprived of a European final.
Bastards UEFA should never have allowed Baku to host the final. Fucking cunts.
My sympathy is tempered slightly because I have no idea what exactly Mkhi has done to anger the Azerbaijani government. The accusations seem very vague.
