Gabriel Jesus (9)

Time to say goodbye. Hope there is a buyer in Jan.

He now fits Edu’s 3 key elements negatively

Edu Gaspar on re-building the Arsenal squad: ā€œThe 3 key elements to judge a player is his age, salary & overall performance.ā€
First of all, we have to see the age of the player, and then you have to see the salary of the player and the third you have to see the performance of the player. So if you have a over 26, 27-years-old you need attention.
ā€˜If his salary is high, you need attention and if he’s not performing, you’re dead. Let’s come back, if you have a player 27-years-old, 28-years-old, big salary, but he’s performing you can accept.
ā€˜What you cannot accept is if you have those three elements and one of them went over 28 you start to be uncomfortable, it’s better for you to move on because maybe this player is blocking someone younger as an asset to help you. So, when I came into Arsenal, when I see all the squads with all my respect, almost everyone was almost 26, 27, biggest salaries not performing.
ā€˜If you have those three elements, which club in the world want to come here and buy one of our players, no one. So how you deal with that situation when you have those situation in your hands, you have to be strong and sometimes you have to make decisions.
ā€˜So, or you go strong and try to make those decisions to let those players go or your project is going to take instead of three, four years it will take seven, eight, nine. Then unpopular decisions start to come, because most of the players watch, they have those elements sometimes in the club they a fan base, they have the media which love the players but for the club its not healthy to keep those players in that situation.’

The dropoff is scary but unsurprising given the injuries. Utilise him this season and get rid next summer if no improvement.

A Saudi move would be the smart one for him if that does play out. Surely someone like Jesus that has played at a top level for many years can spot when they’re no longer capable/at it.

But…let’s hope he surprises us all with a comeback to rival Easter.

There’s been too many rumours of us wanting a striker/Jesus being made available for there to be enough smoke from the club regarding his tenure at Arsenal now.

Players like Trossard and Partey are likely to earn extensions at the club because of their performances. Now I don’t think he displaces Havertz in the line up to play striker but he has to start providing some output. We had the same criticism of Martinelli and he’s beginning to show some promise now.

I still think we are going back for Sesko next summer.

I think one thing by now we should realise is that players can turn a corner and improve dramatically. Confidence and patience plays a huge factor in this, not just in the player but the fans too.

Kai Havertz is the best recent example - look at the posts during his first few games. Martinelli, has been struggling for a while and slowly seems to be rediscovering that confidence and composure in front of goal.

A classic example is Song. He was truly struggling at Arsenal, but run of games, confidence and faith by Wenger helped him massively. We all know by now that Arteta has saviour complex.

We have a long season ahead, with a lot fixtures. He’s out of form yes but that doesn’t mean he will make zero contribution or chances of him rediscovering form is zero.

I think this goes beyond form though

Unlike those guys this extends to physical and that is potentially something irreparable

Gabriel Jesus should be played as a winger now as his ability within the box has dropped significantly. Before he was getting chances and just missing them. He’s not even seeing those chances anymore

Yeah, I don’t think you can even go on to discuss about his confidence, mentality, skill whatever while he’s having so many issues on the main, primary front and that is simply staying fit and injury free.

You could maybe talk about his confidence while he was playing good and was fit but couldn’t finish and stuff like that, but after being disrupted by the injuried so much in these two years it obviously left a mark on his body and he can have all the confidence in the universe but that wont change the sheere fact if he has lost a bit of pace, agility, stamina, balance etc… It just something that has to affect every player.

If you go back, he was actually quite good after the first injury in his first season and had a pretty positive effect on us on the end of that season. Then gets injured again. The recovers. Then injured again. Had a superinconsistent last season obvioisly because of the injuries.
Looks good in preseason again, gets injured again…

I don’t see how you can talk about confidence and ignore all the injuries as if he was fit all the time was on the bench.
Most of us are aware, inclunding Arteta first of all, he’s one of the most talented, if not the most talented player in the squad. Bit it means little while he can’t stay fit for 2-3 months.
Obviously now we have to have faith in him, there’s no other choice, but also most would want an upgrade on him next year.

A post was merged into an existing topic: Kai Havertz (29)

Looked really sharp when he came on. That solo attempt he tried, if he were to get a shot and score that’d be the goal of the season.

Hopefully Saka is fit soon but if not I think he might be the best choice to play RW in Saka’s absence.

Does well but you never have confidence in his ability to finish

Yeah, he is lively and causing them problems. He’s getting into the right positions so hopefully he gets on the scores soon.

This position is where he serves the team best. I have less issues with his inconsistent finishing when played as a RW

Should have scored and he was unlucky to not get an assist. That’s a productive performance by my watch.

Loved the link up between him, Odegaard and Saka today. Jesus pre-World Cup turned up. Fluid attacking football.

I’d say we’re nowhere near that personally but it was decent performance nevertheless.
I thought off the ball he was excellent. Handled being on a yellow for an hour well too.

First half he was really good, more like what we know he can do and helping the fluidity of the front line.

Second half not so much but that’s fine, he’s had limited game time and I’m just happy we saw an improvement.

I personally thought he was still really poor today and didn’t see any improvement. He can’t hold the ball up, and isn’t delivering what we need upfront. Very technically gifted, but such a frustrating player to watch. Think we need to be ruthless and sell him…one of the most obvious upgrades we can make in the squad.
