Emiliano Buendia

I have to assume that if things are as they are being reported that we bid once and didn’t come back to the table once Villa got involved, we can’t have been that deeply interested from the start. You’ve got to think that they see Odegaard as the guy they really want to chase, which is probably going to end in tears.

I know what you mean. Like that time we signed basically our entire current squad.

Ooof.

I had Rodrigo de Paul on my list of “be excited” transfers that don’t really excite me.

I hope there is a twist and we end up with Bernardo Silva as an alternative to Odegaard.
But really, pipedream again.

Impossible to understand how he’d choose Villa over us not so long ago. Now it shows how far we have fallen.

Thought it possible he could’ve been ok for us. It’s a shame.

Bit gutted about this one. £33m is very reasonable. I feel like he’ll be brilliant in the league next season as long as he stays fit.

Don’t quite know what to make of this. We obviously were interested in him but we didn’t want to pay a little over our first bid (assuming a bid was made).

I get the feeling Edu has some cheap, young and possibly Brazilian backups lined up for most of our primary targets and we’ll fall back on them. I do think we’ll make that 1 marquee signing just to appease the fans, like the Pepe signing.

There is way to much of an overreaction about this kid going to Villa. But we’re at a point that everything is a reason to bash this club on. In stead of asking why, if he is so great, why anyone of the best 6-8 European clubs haven’t picked him up, it’s all about Villa over Arsenal?

Top clubs not opting to sign a player doesn’t mean a great deal though as they screw up quite a bit , no one signed VVD at Celtic, they had to see him ball out for Southampton. No one signed Maddison at Norwich, they got interested when he got to Leicester. No one signed Maguire at Hull for peanuts, but were looking to spend big money after they saw him play well for Leicester etc.

Either Fabrizio has made an error or that figure in Euros is around £28m.

He probably means £

He usually talks in euros. I think it aligns with reports yesterday said it’s 30 million pounds that could rise up to 40 and there’s a sell-on clause too.

Thread by Bell on Buendia, it says Arsenal made an offer to Norwich that was rejected. Villa made a better offer to Norwich and the player but Arsenal had no interest matching that. They say we shouldn’t expect any late surprises. Case is closed.

I can understand this situation if we weren’t interested in Buendia and were going for Odegaard.
But if we bid, say 30m for Buendia and Aston Villa pushed it up to 33m, why would we just leave it?

Aston Vill pushed it to £33m plus add ons that are likely very achievable and take it to around £40m. And they also agreed to a sell on clause.

Reeks of missing out on Juan Mata and Xabi Alonso over 10-20% over our valuation, which in all cases was too low.

The xabi alonso one was a fucking disaster. Honestly this club deserves all of the pain it gets for how it’s been run over the years.
