Douglas Luiz

It is pretty much the going rate now, unless we are talking about one of our players we are trying to sell

However, that makes it even more important that we target the right players. Zubimendi wouldn’t be that much more than Luiz and would be a much better option for us. But if we want a top quality midfielder we need to go for quality over quantity.

In my view we should be going all out for Aurelien Tchouameni, Bruno Guimaraes, or FDJ. I’d still be very happy with Zubimendi though as well. Tchouameni is my dream.

There is no way he is worth Ā£50m let alone Ā£100m. That’s just madness.

Are we talking about the same player here? Douglas Luiz of Villa, right?
One of the best midfielders in the PL this season?
Not worth 50m?!

He is certainly not a £100 million player.

I would say 80m is about his worth currently with the season he’s just had. Declan was worth even more but we had leverage to drive his price down.
West Ham used to quote teams 150m before.

He is a good player but saying he is worth Ā£80m, puts him in the same bracket as Bruno or FDJ? I’m not disagreeing that he isn’t a good player, I’m not convinced with the values being talked about though.

He’s younger, he’s on par with Bruno currently if not better so them being worth about the same is no surprise.

Frenkie is better than both and the only reason he would be grouped with them currently is that he just came off a poor season at Barca, riddled with some injuries and on top of that there’s his contract situation that’s still unresolved.

Absolute bargain then! Sign him up Edu

If we can get him for 50m I think that’s a no brainer. Obviously when he immediately does his ACL and misses the whole season I’ll look stupid for suggesting it.

50m would be a fucking bargain.

Btw, just because I’ve been asked about it a lot lately.

It’s nothing personal with the dudes I prefer for us not to sign. Whoever it is, if they join js they’ll have my full backing.

As things stand though it’s all been bullshit and rumours. We’re not even actually close to signing anybody as far as I’m aware.
I haven’t see a single reputable source suggesting we’re closing in on a specific player, even with Sesko it’s all very vague and apparently he still hasn’t made his mind up whether he wants to leave Leipzig at all.

So for now, I will be selfish and wish we sign the players I think would be the right fit.

Camavinga or Neves.

How does Fofana rank amongst all these names? I’ve vaguely heard a good word or two, and that he’s available fairly cheap.

Probably a good pickup if nothing else works. A depth option brought in to add depth.
That checks out to me.

I’d risk it all to sign him.

We aren’t getting Camavinga. At a push, his team mate Valverde could become available. I’d be all over that. Rice, Luiz and Odegaard would be extremely balanced though. Luis can play as well as mix it up and score goals. I’d prefer Luiz to Guinness.

Ā£50m (including future fees/bonuses) I’d be happy with.
You’re not getting any player with top current ability for less these days, unless they’re old/contract expiring.

He’s also not a unique but fairly rare type of player, bearing in mind his defensive, offensive and technical abilities.

Wages shouldn’t be ridiculous considering he’ll want the move

That’s the thing with Fofana - he’s good for the money, but not top performer. Mainly his passing stats that don’t match the best midfielders. He’s a box to box tank though and the kind a player that can turn up with an important header or tackle from time to time.

The coaching staff will work to improve players though.

50m for Dougie would be great. 40m was a bit too much 2 years ago but he’s proven himself more since and with the fees now that would be relatively cheap.

80m would be a joke but he is better than Bruno imo.
