Even though it’s not true in reality, for where I imagine Everton think they are, West Ham are probably as direct a rival as you can get.

Yeah probably coz they’ll get more money than he is worth.
It won’t help Everton though as they’ll likely just waste the coin.

You’re not the only one saying this, I.e. DCL +1 if we do bring in DCL. Depends on if Marinelli is a credible CF by the end of this season, and whether or not it is clear we need to cut losses with Pepe.
I’m not sure he’s anything more than a good squad option. Maybe slightly better than the ever slowing Laca but I don’t think we’ll contend for either the big 2 trophies if he’s the first choice centre forward.
Maybe he’s better than I realise but not convinced at the moment.
Tbf, there aren’t too many star strikers out there.
Shows why the club pushed a lot for Vlahovic. Now it’s “pick your poison” time.

If it ends up being DCL plus Lacazette signed to a 1+1 deal the club have really missed the mark.
DCL is fine, but I don’t see him making a huge leap the way that Mane or Jota did when they moved to Liverpool. I’d absolutely rather have him around than Lacazette obviously.
There are really only two sure things in the forward market, Haaland and Mbappe. Everyone else comes with big risk.

IMO, without having a super in-depth knowledge of the striker market, DCL and Jonathan David would be a great striker combo for us in the summer.
DCL to tide us over while David hits his Henry stride, taking over from DCL and turning him into a Wiltord like player while David matures and starts scoring 25 goals a season 5 season straight.
That said, as I’ve mentioned before, I’m sure there are plenty of top class striker talents playing for clubs like Donetsk, Rapid Wien and Zagreb, we just haven’t scouted them properly and realistically given the “big name” striker talents being bandied around (Isak, David and so on) we’d probably be better off trying to target some uncut gems from random European leagues. The kind of thing clubs like Fiorentina, Lille etc. do.

Regarding Mbappe and Harland being the only sure bets this goes back to even some concerns I quietly had about Vlahovic possibly ending up a bit like Soldado and a few others who were free scoring in other leagues but flopped in the PL.
That sounds suspiciously close to the Dortmund Model!?
