Dennis Bergkamp

This guy really knew how to kick a soccer ball really fucking hard. Gone too soon R.I.P

Look at this God playing football. Everything he did was just flawless

The one that made me fall in love with football (and Arsenal).

God.

And people still compare Ozil’s vision to Bergkamp

Those first few passes to Kluivert are just… … Idk…

And that whole generation in general is just.. something else. They may have won nothing, but people will still remember them far better than that generation that won a couple of medals around 2010-2014.

Depending on age really. Doubt many under 25 do now. Thankfully there is youtube for people but each generation needs its own heroes.

The thing that gets me and I’m not sure if it’s mentioned at all, is that he isn’t the fastest of players, yet makes up for it perfectly with a devine first and second touch. Having that edge over players is a gift even amongst the professionals.

I think a lot in football has changed since the 2000’s. I don’t think I notice it as much nowadays but when you see Dennis pluck the ball out of the air with such nonchalance, it’s jaw dropping haha.

Manz needs to come home and coach or I may have a second team to look out for.

That’s the thing that stands out for me about Dennis. Because he made everything look simple, it was only something outrageous like the goals against Argentina, Newcastle, Leicester etc. that people remember him for.

What people probably forget, and what YT videos like the ones posted above show is that almost everything he did was absolute perfection. And because he did it with such ease, people tended to not notice it.

Every pass of his was perfectly weighted, accurate, many of them hit first time, without even looking. Add to that his first touch which even God envied, his physicality, his ability to hit a thunderous shot with either foot with almost no back-lift, his ability to dribble in tight spaces. Pure genius.

I still can’t comprehend it.

How does it even end up being a right footed shot into the bottom right corner.

I just noticed how well he angles his body as if he is about to finish in the keeper’s right corner, then folds his upper body last second to turn a bit to finish on the left side instead. What composure, and tbh why am I even surprised

Masterful

I will never not throw a like at a video of that goal. Just incredible.

I’ve been watching some of The Arsenal greats on YouTube and actual game footage and there is very little to chose between Bergkamp and Kanu .
Both incredible players but Kanu ……… this boy was some player. Probably went missing in games which gives Bergkamp the slight edge but Kanu was just brilliant.
Love both these guys but I’m leaning towards Kanu .
( yes I’ve had my medication today )

Got a lot of love for Kanu, but crikey, this feels like a very bold take from you. Dennis is God.

Love Kanu but Bergy was genuinely one of the best players on earth in his prime.

Kanu had an abundance of talent but was never really close to Dennis as a player. All round game just couldn’t compare.
