Dean Huijsen

Would this hurt some Arsenal fans feelings, buying another defender? (I think we need one).

I mean there’s very much a doubt about this.

How can you be a top top player in a position where the main ask is your biggest flaw?

Depends on the timing. If we sign a defender before a forward then some people will naturally be upset.

As long as we address all positions we need strengthening by the time the season starts, I’d be happy.

Jeez you guys…sometimes you lot overcomplicate things.

It’s as simple as reminding yourself - If TAA can win things with gung-ho Liverpool, he can win things with gung-ho Real Madrid.

That wasn’t really what was up for debate

It’s more fit based and whether he will ultimately have the level importance and influence that he did at Liverpool

Same answer. TAA played most of his Liverpool career behind Salah who didn’t contribute much defensively.
He didn’t have a Kante-esque defensive midfielder either.

He was bailed out by likes of Matip/Konate/VVD and the system allowed him to go further & do the damage.

If Real sort out their midfield(for instance throw a fit 2020 Modric in there) and they don’t need to worry about TAA.

Courtios - TAA, Rudiger, ?CB?, ?LB? - Camavinga, ?CM?, Bellingham - Rodrygo, Mbappe, Valverde

They didn’t need a Kante type because they had the perfect complimentary midfield and forward line that shielded his deficiencies and a system that really hid what he is very poor at.

Real’s team is not currently set up for that, also Real don’t need a Kante type anyway. It’s not the same or similar situation despite the attacking riches they have in part because they are lazy AF and the team can’t press

The reason why they are going trophyless and getting destroyed by Barca at every opportunity is because the team lacks cohesion, discipline, control and midfield dictating brilliance

What issue does TAA solve? It’s yet another vanity signing for a team that is already super unbalanced, that was never really the case for Liverpool at their peak

Real’s biggest problem right now is in defense, not midfield. After the injuries to Carvajal and Militao, both of whom might be done as top players, Rudiger, who is 32, is really the only defender at the level. Their lack of cohesion in midfield is substantially a function of that because Valverde and Tchouameni both had to deputize half the time in the defensive line. And even with them deputizing Real had to give major minutes to the likes of Lucas Vazquez, Fran Garcia, and Raul Asencio.

All that said, I’m not convinced TAA or Alvaro Carreras are the right answers. I do like Huijsen.

Tchouameni needs to get sold because he ain’t it IMO

Defence is just as big of an issue especially as there have been some terrible injuries sustained and they’re aging but midfield is just as big of an issue to me

Losing the influence of Kroos and Modric has left them rudderless

Hujisen is a good signing but they do need more especially if they get another major injury say to Rudiger then their season would be over

Yup, they need one more CB even after Huijsen. I would love for them to put the hard press on Liverpool to sell Konate for money now rather than lose him for free next summer.

In midfield, I think the plan was to sign Rodri this summer and it got fucked by his injury. My guess is that they will give it one more year to see if some pair of Camavinga, Tchouameni, and Valverde can work (in addition to Bellingham, who is untouchable). I tend to agree that Tchouameni ain’t it but I think there is a lot more to unlock from Camavinga if he can stay healthy (big if). Their midfield play has definitely dropped from the Kroos, Modric, Casemiro days but getting back to that level ain’t easy without signing ready made world class players like Rodri.

Madrid’s midfield is the stuff of nightmares for me.

Valverde - Choo Choo - Bellingham

Or

Valverde - Cama - Bellingham

Second is slightly better but I don’t like either setup much at all, too much physicality and power over creation. The one remotely creative player mentioned can’t even stay fit. Ignoring modric as a bit part player now.

Would make a lot of sense for them to grab Zubi and see if they can make it work with Fede and Jude either side of him.

Very good deal for Real Madrid…his release clause is crazy…no wonder we were interested in signing him - Ā£50m release clause to be paid in three instalments. Would have made it very affordable for us and suspect we were thinking of him as the replacement for Kiwior, and long term replacement for Gabriel.

Dean Huijsen: Real Madrid agree £50m deal to sign Bournemouth defender - BBC Sport

Now need them to focus their attention on Konate

It would be good if they can weaken Liverpool, although they seem likely to target Hato now.

Not sure why people think getting 50m a good defender with 1 year to go is weakening them.

I’d rather they get 1 more year of konate chokeslams and then lose him on a free.

90000 fans on his back on defensive transitions but he is one hell of an artist on the ball. It’ll be interesting to see how they react to the moments he unlocks new possibilities for their attack vs potentially causing them to fail their objectives for the season.

The way Barca exposed their defensive woes this season does make this seem a bit of a Hollywood move. Linked to Theo as well which just seems way too unbalanced on a defensive level.

I think Trent would have ended up playing in midfield under Carlo to be frank.

I have my concerns on how Alonso will do in his first big job, and it’s arguably the biggest job in the world no less, however, I think his arrival is a good thing for Trent.
Grimaldo is a good reference of how Alonso could use him. You could even add Frimpong in that conversation as he’s awful defensively.

He’ll play RWB when Alonso uses a 3atb(3-4-3/3-5-2) and RM when he uses 4-4-2.
Same way Grimaldo and Frimpong were used.

TAA isn’t really a wing back though

Back 5 isn’t going to fly at Real also

Neither was Grimaldo when he arrived at Leverkusen.

It will if the results are good.

Results being good with taking out a midfielder for a defender, sure

And results at Real being good ain’t anywhere near enough
