David Raya (22)

Two games is no sample size.

Of course, but is encouraging start, I love Ramsdale he was monumental in our change of mentality but I trust Arteta that he knows what he is doing.

Not saying the stuff in the second tweet isn’t true but tbh pretty much everything he has faced has been right at him or a cross with minimal pressure (bar the one where Tarkowski was called for a foul).

Ramsdale has the bottle for a NLD. He deserves to start that game as he hasn’t put a foot wrong this season.

(The Palinha equaliser v Fulham and the Rashford goal are a complete stretch if we’re looking to blame Rambo for them)

Not wrong, hasn’t really been tested with shots yet but his sweeping up at the back has been very good. Sunday surprisingly turned out to be an easiest game he could ask for a debut and then last night it was fairly comfortable once we hit our stride.

Stats from yesterday on launched kicks. 15 attempted, 10 completed

He’s also visibly having a lot of success coming for crosses. Statistically, it’s unusually high so feels like a bit of an anomaly.

Raya claimed 5 crosses vs PSV. Not only was that the highest in the first round of games this season, but also beat out 15 teams from last year’s competition (minimum 6 games). :person_shrugging:

His distribution was immense yesterday. Made a few plays that went out for throw-ins, but a brilliant debut from him

This amount of long passes and the success he’s having from them is not the normal. He really might be number one in world at that single attribute.

Ter Stegen and Ederson also rank highly but don’t have the frequency of Raya

My Raya prop in 2021 looking really good now. I was desperate for us to sign him.
Just don’t check what I thought of him in 2020 please.

Picking sides drives engagement

The act Carragher was putting on whilst talking to Schmeichel and Green yesterday was mega phony, he’s bringing that Sky Sports energy

Easy money

I’m quite bemused why is this such a huge talking point NOW.

It was a big surprise we went for Raya in the first place. Obviously you expected there’s a big chance he’ll be the number 1 when that happened… Did anyone seriosly think he was coming here to just sit on the bench and play the cups, and maybe to ā€œwait for his opportunityā€?

It was always a matter of ā€œwhenā€ and not ā€œifā€ for him to get his chance as the number 1, no matter how Ramsdale plays.

Surely he had some promises/guarantees from Arteta he’ll get his chance no matter what happens with Ramsdale, otherwise he would never agree to join. He was never going to come here and wait for Ramsdale’s injury lol.

Again, I just don’t understand why is this such a surprise/so controversial for so many people now?

Btw, you’re also being way too quick to judge him as better than Ramsdale based on these two games. He literally had nothing to do against Everton, you could have played Ruinarsson there and hardly notice a difference. Couldn’t watch the game last night but I doubt he had much more to do.

I’m sure Arteta brought him with the idea to be the new number 1, although there were no strict guarantees to be the number one. He had to, and still has to, prove himself to some extent. But there was surely a guarantee to get the chance. And that’s all that’s happening atm.

If everything goes as planned he’s the new number 1, but he still has to prove himself against some decent teams. Shame we still have to wait a few weeks to face those.

Didn’t the team show confidence last night ?
Raya looked so comfortable, calm and he was the number one keeper .
Ramsdale has been brilliant for us but he needs to realise this is now a long season and we need to address strengths and weaknesses.
Raya , so far hasn’t shown any weaknesses.
Big decision by Artea .

I feel like this is only a big story because it’s Arsenal tbh…

  • omg Arsenal timewasting, nobody has ever done it before
  • omg Arsenal have two top GKs, why? This is so wrong, unsettling Rammers
  • omg Arsenal celebrating winning a football match; you haven’t won anything
  • omg Arsenal spent so much money, they HAVE to win the league now
  • omg Arsenal hired a coach who hasn’t managed before

Like, what the actual fuck. Every other top club has probably done this before in some capacity.

The anti-Arsenal agenda is insane in this country.

Do you have an example?

How is this anti-Arsenal? It’s strange to have two #1s at a club.

Ramsdale was voted best keeper in the League by his peers and has been nominated for the Goalkeeper’s Ballon d’Or award. The fact he’s not first choice is worthy of news.

I don’t have an example, but I wouldn’t be surprised if clubs have Barca/Real etc have had 2 good-to-great GKs before in their history.

If Brighton do it tomorrow, nobody would bat an eye-lid.

The only thing that’s strange is if Arteta makes a half-time GK substitution. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s been done before too.

It’s noteworthy tbh

You don’t see many top clubs doing it if at all, it’s a rarity and so it will be discussed plenty.

It’s be the same if it happened at Liverpool, City or United etc .
