Overall, sounds like a good move for backup. I was actually thinking about Palhinha yesterday.
It’s tricky to move for a youngster in that position and have them as cover. It’s a very difficult position to master, even Partey struggled as a single pivot at first, Rodri was awful at it too initially.
Having someone experienced there makes more sense. This also doesn’t block MLS eventually becoming an option there too.
No matter the way this goes, this is putting more pressure on Zubimendi to perform right away.
With Partey he would have a luxury of being integrated into the team slowly. If Partey leaves (most likely) Zubi is the only proper starting XI option and he’ll have to hit the ground running straight away.
I didn’t honestly catch much of Norgaard while watching Brentford, but he’s always been rated positively as far as I know.
The issue could be that we play a totally different style, Brentford are way more direct, don’t have nearly as much possession…
Even if he does well, he’s just a B option. Big pressure on Zubi now.
@Darkseid I don’t get the frustration here. We’re talking about a very reliable midfielder who’d most likely come in on reasonable wages from a set-up where we got both players and other staff from and they have transitioned very well.
This could also allow us to spend bigger on forwards.
No I’m not, I don’t think he’ll see the field much at all but if he does meaning it’s a crisis it could be an issue because of the type of player he is. Simple.
@GC-Maniac: I just don’t like him for us espeically having to pay a preimum because they won’t be taking that initial offer, he has two years left and he’s their captain and starts every week
I’m not saying he’s a terrible footballer but if we were letting Partery and Jorginho go he shouldn’t be the first name on top of our list. Like I said a panic signing is what this looks like.
I was initially fond of the prospect of having both Partey and Zubimendi but seeing him in the Nations League, Zubimendi may have aspirations to be an integral part for Spain in the next WC.
He’s faired amazingly for Spain in Rodri’s absence and de la Fuente likes him a lot.
At the end of the day, only one between Partey and Zubimendi would start each game and I think Zubimendi wouldn’t have made the jump if he wasn’t gonna start the majority of the games.
That’s precisely one of the reasons referenced(competition with Rodri) as to why he rejected City.
There is no doubt everyone was expecting Zubi to take the starting spot to himself eventually.
We aren’t paying 60M for a squad player. I don’t think anyone expected to see 2 of them being rotated equally.
Past the starting phase of the season obviously.
Just saying it would be nice to have Partey for that acclimatisation period, while being a great cover later on.
Because whichever way we look at it, the priority positions are not being addressed. And once again we are in a window where we are adding players to areas we seem to constantly be redefining.
If this is a reaction to Partey seemingly on his way out, it’s annoying to be in a position during the middle of a window where we now have to react rather than focus on what always was a need to go big in the attack.
Liverpool may have had to rely on Elliott, Endo and Gravenberch. Injuries fuck basically any team. Tbh your depth expectations seem pretty unrealistic. As if every fan wouldn’t want a 22 deep squad full of the highest quality, seems pretty pointless to expect it though.
And if they had to rely on Elliot and Endo it would have been a problem especially Endo.
Also did I say I want a squad full of the highest quality for every single player? Think you’ve misunderstood what I’ve said.
My point is that I’d rather we go for a younger player in the mould of the players we’re losing, Norgaard seems a panic signing from a club that seems to have not planned for a replacement for Partey until literally days until the end of his contract expiring.
