Ironically when Arteta was struggling the example a lot of other coaches and pundits used was Ferguson at Man U which should show you how far back they had to go for an example.
I think it’s possible Potter could stabilize them around midtable to 5th but it was a very strange hire from the jump and honestly even weirder they fired Tuchel midseason.
Tbf, Arteta was extremely lucky that we didn’t have fans back in 2020/21.
That run in late 2020 really pushed the boundaries. I do think he was one or two defeats away from the board seriously re-evaluating his job. That Chelsea win on Boxing Day really turned things around for him.
Well, when they decided not to register Badiashile in the CL in favour of the other stars they signed when Badiashile has actually looked great for them since coming in then you know he ain’t calling the shots.
Some of his pressers in January were pure comedy. He was talking about essentially toning down the transfers and then the next few days they got a player or two and so on. His reaction to the signings sometimes were fucking ridiculous too. Like, you could see he didn’t even know he was getting so and so. Before January he pretty much criticized how they handled the summer, about making too many changes in a short amount of time.
It’s honestly a mess but Potter just won’t call it quits on his first big job. I actually think it would be much more commendable if he did that. Every game now he is tanking his worth more and more.
This keeps going he’ll be in Moyes territory post Man Utd, if he’s not there already.
If they get knocked out of the CL, I think they’ll be a mess until the summer no matter who is the manager. Its a dysfunctional squad with lots of entitled stars and they’ll have nothing to play for. What is a late resurgence going to do for them? Maybe you can squeak into the Conference League?
Yeah, Potter or not, any manager would struggle with the mess they created. You’d need some no nonsense experienced guys to come in and figure this shit out.
I’ve no clue how they even handle training sessions there with so many players, with most of them being so high profile as well.
I think at this point they might as well give him till the end of the season and save the next guy they trouble of seeing out this shite of a season.
I do wonder about this. It’s one thing if a team goes really young but it’s another if a team goes young and high profile. Those players will all be looking at Chelsea as the next big step, how will they (and their reps) react if they’re not playing, or not being registered for competitions?
What I love most about this Chelsea is that there are no positives for them. Usually when teams go through a bad period there will be at least one player who stands out or there will be signs of what the manager is trying to implement. But there is zilch. There is no sign of life in this Chelsea team at all. Since November they’re the lowest scoring PL team. It’s brilliant.
Just know they’ll ditch Potter before we play them though.
