Chelsea

I quite like the idea of these average managers being given a dress rehearsal at another big club as opposed to Arsenal.

Potter, Rodgers, villas Boas and then young pretenders like OGS and di Matteo.

Let them be shit there, that way we’ll never consider them.

Potter looks uncomfortable. It’s almost as if he knows the job is too big for him and his CV. Managing a club with players with international calibre and big honours is very different to managing relative unknowns who are excited by the opportunity you have given them.

I think Potter is a top coach but management is different. I mean how does he manage a player with the profile of Thiago Silva? Luckily for him, Silva appears to be a model pro but that isn’t a guarantee of some of the other big names at Chelsea.

Chelsea players have always been cunts tbh. The way they downed tools on Mourinho (twice) and then the way Oscar, Cuntegras and Costa got rid of Conte.

It’s the poisoned chalice, that club.

I do wonder if they tempt Cholo next and whether or not he’ll be stupid enough to go there.

Agreed. Massive poisoned chalice. Even if you win the Champions League, you’re rewarded with a new set of demands.

Player power seems quite rife there which is ironic because when Chelsea had genuine stars and club legends like Terry, ****let, Lampard, Drogba et Al there seemed to be a togetherness and respect.

Now, you probably have the likes of Loftus Cheek thinking that they know too much and don’t listen to a coach.

Potter’s time at Chelsea couldn’t have gone any worse.

@Strollwr what kind of curse have you put on the lad?

Next level haha.

Arteta this season has made me be a little more patient before I write a coach off but it’s not going well at all.

I honestly couldn’t have imagined going any worse for Potter.
There are not even any positive signs right now.
Way they’re going they’re not finishing in the Top 10 and they’re certainly going trophyless.

Potter was completely the wrong choice for Chelsea.
They are the epitome of a club that buys success, with owners and supporters who couldn’t care less about how it’s achieved or what it takes to get it.

What Potter did at Brighton was over a period of several seasons, so Chelsea trying to replicate that was ridiculous with a fanbase as toxic and as impatient as they are.

You don’t hire Potter for the instant results but I guess the question at the moment is whether they should have hired him at all. Will Boehly be as patient as the Kroenkes

You don’t spend the money for long term success.

Todd will look at Newcastle and Man Utd and ask questions on why they managed to get quicker results with less investment on worse sides. Let’s not forget these guys won the CL in 2021.

Potter has a good enough squad to extract some half decent performances out of these players.

They’ve definitely had injury issues but it’s difficult to defend some of the performances they’ve put together and some of his match day selections.

You definitely need time but you also need to be able to show you’re doing something that moves the club in a positive direction. And I don’t really think Potter is doing that he’s winning less than 50% of the games he is involved in.

I was very worried going for Potter meant Chelsea were gonna finally get their shit together. Absolutely has not worked out but they do seem to be targeting much younger signings based on the rumours this window, so it does give me a few parallels to us if they stick with him.

Hopefully they come out the other end covered in shit and vomit.

Yikes. They fired him 4 months ago. They still haven’t moved on.

You know one of my questions over him was on personality and especially at a big club.
You have to impose yourself and without a track record it’s even more important.
This isn’t going to work and how it ends and he conducts himself will be important for him in his next club.
He bows out meekly with no voice or defence of himself or calling out things, that’s doing him no favours and will reflect on him.
Training drills and tactics are only half the job.

Does Potter survive if he loses against Fulham next weekend?

  • Yes
  • No
  • He will be sacked before the Fulham game

Watching them suffer is so wonderful.

A lot of believers in Chelsea being patient it seems. I think if he loses against Fulham the pressure will be insane. Gap to 4th could open up even further.
They play Palace after that, who themselves have been shakey, if he doesn’t get sacked after a loss to Fulham, any drop of points against Palace will be the end of him at Chelsea imo.

I just can’t see him being fired this season after they went so overboard talking up the “project” and “building something”.

He’s playing youngsters but will he dare do it against Fulham?
