Chelsea

You have a foot in either camp with Zola and Bergkamp.
Who’s the best for you then?

I’m gonna have to say Bergkamp :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m definitely in the Berg camp.

With Chelsea it’s not so much the players. I actually liked allot of their players.

It’s the fans and ownership that make them so unlikable.

He’s been getting a bit snappy lately. I low-key want to see that from him. Liked that when he was at Brighton. Turned into a Yes man as soon as he went to Chelsea.
Literally got a haircut and started dressing more formally. Just be yourself, if it gets you sacked it gets you sacked.

Needs to be more cutthroat with the players as well. Hooking Auba after bringing on definitely sent a message.

Nice guys don’t win.

Bland guys don’t win. This is top club pressure. It’s not Mid table Brighton.
This is what you signed up too.

How has he become a yes man? Because he started dressing up a bit more?

Problem is with a Potter is that managing younger and lesser profile players and getting them to buy into your ideas is totally different to to managing top players.

Plenty of top club managers over the years had lesser tactical knowledge but far superior man management and ability to handle high pressure situations.

Potter looks out of his depth and like he’s struggling to get the players to understand his football.

Definitely has a career at this level (the PL) but not a top club manager and don’t think he ever will be

How many top players does he actually have?

I can’t even count five.

You don’t have to be a top talent to be a top player. Lot of players will arrive on over inflated fees and wage packets and that in itself makes them believe they are a top player.

Ziyech isn’t a top talent in my eyes but he’s a good player with a big ego and a strong attitude that makes him harder to manage in that area alone.

Plus the pressure of managing talent at a top club is a whole different prospect within itself

Bro you said top players

Ziyech is no top player and like I said I can barely count five, players like him are at the heart of the problem at Chelsea

Some can write him off but I see a team that needs a lot of surgery and shifting of deadwood and is clearly missing important players, I will reserve judgement because it’s a huge task to get them back on track.

I think if we’re all being honest, journalists do ask some pretty stupid questions :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah top players as in players who play for top clubs. Not “world class” players as that’s a different metric.

Ego, wages, transfer fees, pressure, media scrutiny, expectation

All of that massively different at top clubs

tbf it’s tough gig. You ask a good intelligent question and managers/coaches are unwilling to answer because they don’t want to reveal any tactical information. You see it in other sports too

@Darkseid
Don’t you think his demeanor changed at Chelsea?

I’ve checked a couple of his interviews since joining Chelsea and he’s not behaving the same way.

Behaves like a man walking on thin ice, it’s like he knows he’s under the microscope of Todd.
He used to have a bit of swagger at Brighton, he looked confident. He doesn’t now.

I can’t see the players seeing this Potter and feeling his authority. I think a lot of them are already waiting for the next guy.

Can’t say I see all this tbh, time will tell with him but for me if he’s afforded the time he can turn the situation around, there is no quick fix there.

Needs the support and trust of those that identified him as the man to take them in a new direction.

Even managing the bench is whole different prospect. Bench a player you’ve signed from Norway he’s receptive to club needs bench a player you spent £60m on and he’s grumbling to other players and his attitude on the bench might stink.

Just whole different world between Chelsea and Brighton and not sure he has the man management to deal with that even if his tactical idea are nice
