You couldn’t even cross Bac. Don’t be upset mate.
Also after Petit and Overmars left for Barce we signed Pires and Edu.
What if we picked up Mata and Cazorla that summer - they both moved that window. And if we got Arteta too. Would we have been crying so much about Cesc if we did that? We rebuilt poorly that summer.
Typical Arsenal, slopey shoulders, blame your teammate Even a decade or so on
He’s not blaming them. He’s saying how he saw it directly from the inside. And he is responding to a direct question about his reasons for leaving. Time passed is irrelevant here, he was asked the question.
I was talking about Sagna’s reply. He was saying well at the time people said Cesc didn’t track back enough. Today everyone at Liverpool tracks back. Maybe if we had a better attitude (Cesc tracking back) we would of won things.
Oops. Sorry.
I didn’t even read that.
Definitely
Bound to happen that some would object to Cesc’s statement but what Cesc said was true. I feel bad for Sagna as he was not far from them but it was still obvious there was a gap.
If you ask Sanchez/Ozil in coming years, they would say the same.
It’s a shame we didn’t have more of such players at one given time. Either injuries robbed us or transfer market falacies.
I always thought that Sagna was a very good right back and had a pretty good mentality too, I don’t think he was some mental weakling like some others we’ve had. I can see why those comments might have got his back up as he quite clearly got lumped in with those players who Fabregas thought weren’t up to it compared to him, and probably unfairly. Fair play to Fabregas for being honest in voicing his opinion and not mincing his words to be nice to the likes of fucking Denilson or whoever, but it was a bit harsh on a few players and think Sagna has every right to have a little nibble back.
The way he talked I believe what he says about giving Arsenal a couple more years if we weren’t shit.
I wonder if that was made crystal clear to the club, and they just proceeded with their stupid business model regardless.
It feels like we’d never do what it took to ensure our top players were taken care of. I’m sure Gerrard, Lampard, Drogba, Ferdinand, Terry, Rooney etc. will have had offers throughout their careers but they all ended up leaving their clubs when they were basically past it.
"Sometimes, I used to go home after we lost and I used to cry, I used to suffer, I used to spend sleepless nights suffering.
"And then you lose a game, you’re in the bus like this, destroyed, and then you hear some players laughing, thinking about where they will be going out later.
That would piss me off tbf. I couldn’t imagine the likes of Vieira, Henry etc bantering on the bus home after a loss.
Yeah I interpreted it as he’s talking about the midfielders and forwards that are shit football wise and game intelligence wise rather than whether he thought the fullbacks were decent.
The likes of Denilson, Chamakh, Ramsey, Wilshere, Song, Walcott, Bentdner were nowhere near Fabregas level of footballer.
He may well have meant that, but given he just made a sweeping statement (or that it appears to be a sweeping statement when quoted in news articles or on twitter, maybe it sounded different if you listen to the interview and get the full context) and seemingly was referring to all players present at that time, I can see how someone like Sagna would take it personally.
If I was Sagna and saw a quote in an article where Fabregas says only two other players were on his level mentally and technically, I’d take it personally because those qualities aren’t the sole domain of attackers, technical quality and the right mentality are both qualities that can apply to defenders too. It’s not like Fabregas said that Nasri and van Persie were the only two other players with flair and match winning ability, a statement which a solid, defensive right back like Sagna would know isn’t referring to him or his defensive colleagues.
He’s one of the best players to ever play for Arsenal, certainly within our lifetime. He also stayed a lot longer than other top quality players would have in the same circumstances.
His departure certainly soured things but not to the degree that I’m prepared to start pretending he was less important than he was.
Exactly.
The likes of Sagna and Clichy were in title winning sides after Arsenal. For C’ntegras to make such statements just reaffirms his weaselly nature.
Couldn’t captain his side while he was here. A bitter sourpuss when he’s gone. He can kindly fck right off.
Yeah. And with that you mentioned the only five proper players Arsenal had between 08 - 11. The rest was shit. Which is what I meant with bullshitting.
Arsenal gave Fabregas everything he wanted.
A first team breakthrough
Wages
Support through injuries
The captaincy
Fail to see how the club bullshit him
They didn’t though. He wanted the club to show ambition. He wanted them to sign players who didn’t look like they were doing an impression of Bambi on Ice when they were playing football.
But what they not gave him was a team to be competitive with. Which is the most important.
Cesc was our heartbeat for a long time and that interview is an eye opener. I begrudged him for a while but looking back on it, I have only respect for the guy. He did what he could with us.
