Cesc Fabregas

It’ll probably be the same interview. The other players were shit and didn’t give a fuck about winning.

And it’s not Wenger’s fault to sign shit players. He basically had no choice in the matter.

Did you see when he was asked about his departure on BT Sport and he said that Arsenal was like his wife, and “after 8 years, my wife got a little tired of me, those are the facts”. He then suggested that we never even offered him a new deal, which of course is a load of absolute wank. Maybe we didn’t offer the kind of deal both monetarily and sporting wise that Man U could at the time, but we obviously offered a fucking deal.

No Robin, your wife was actually desperate for you to stay but you fucked off after spending 7 out of 8 seasons getting rehabilitated after your customary season ending injury would invariably pop up.

I finally listened to the arseblog interview. The thing is, I never really had anything against it. Not re-signing him was probably the one thing I hold against Arsene. I look forward to Arsene’s book for his side of it but it definitely sounds like there was residual hostility from Arsenal’s side.

I find it very hard to disagree with his reasons for doing anything he did, or even the way he went about it. I think a lot of us would have done the same.

I don’t believe playing with Ozil would’ve been a problem. I think Cesc would have reduced Ramsey or Wilshere’s minutes and that was an issue. We already had trouble accomodating everyone to the point that Rambo was playing as a RM and Wilshere as a LM. Plus, Rambo just came off banging the previous season. I reckon in Wenger’s mind adding Fabregas was an absolute overkill to his midfielder options so they just ghosted him.

The idea we couldn’t have found space for Fabregas in that team is just ludicrous.

I’m sure we could have as well.

Shunt Ozil out on the right wing or keep Fabregas and Ozil central with Coquelin as the CDM.

Not sure what you would do with Cazorla then.

I see Fabregas as more similar to Cazorla than Ozil anyway.

Also, I find it impossible to believe they’d all have stayed fit at one time for very long

Cazorla would have been fine in wings

The fitness argument is the best one for saying we should have resigned Fabregas when we had the chance, cos with everyone fit, we do struggle to find a coherent midfield with all of Ozil, Cazorla, Fabregas, Ramsey, Wilshere being attack minded central midfielders/attackers. If they were all players you could rely on to be fit most of the time then there is no room for Fabregas unless you want to ship someone out in exchange.

He was shit on the wing mostly.

It would have been at the expense of other talent that we had at the time though; we had Ozil, Ramsey in his prime and in 2014 it was still reasonable for us to hope that Wilshere could fulfill his potential. Obviously Cesc was a completely different level of player and it would’ve been great to have him back but I can see the reasons why Wenger resisted.

Btw, however he can twist it, he was bitter about Arsenal snubbing him, especially Arsene, and part of moving to Chelsea was also to get under Arsenal’s skin.
He even comes off bitter when he is reflecting on it now. Also, he might want to blur the story, but Barca sent him packing and wrote a letter calling him out as a flop which is still one of the most embarrassing things I’ve seen in my whole life.

At the end of the day, he’s more of a Chelsea legend than an Arsenal one. Gotta get used to it.

If the Chelsea fans I know are anything to go by, he isn’t a Chelsea legend at all.

What? My list started when he sold Paul Merson cos I bloody loved him. (looking back that was obvs the right call)

Haha I can’t imagine a less Arsene Wenger player than The Merse. A man who once said he could never understand why Dennis Bergkamp trained so much when he was more talented than anyone else in the squad, unable to make the crucial mental connection between those two things.

Actually in the very early days I remember having a similar grievance with Arsene because of his clear clash of personalities with Ian Wright.

That was number two. :santi:

Who thinks this? I really want to know. I know a few Chelsea fans, and they have never said anything of the sort. And I know Arsenal fans who love him. So yeah, this has not been my experience. But if you know different, then please share your stories. Genuinely curious.

There are gooners who call him an Arsenal legend. You gotta understand, with a certain age group of our fanbase Fabregas was the guy. Personally, I can’t see it. :man_shrugging:
As for him being a Chelsea legend, I don’t think he is and I don’t really care about it but imo he has more claim being a Chelsea legend than an Arsenal legend. That’s all.
