Boxing

Look, swimmers swim in water; figure skaters skate on frozen water! Apples and pears.

Two different crafts.

An MMA fighter should beat a boxer in a street fight, but I’m not going to say that it is a superior sport.

Anyway, great message from AJ and he’s back in position to fight at the very top of the sport.

It’s all contextual though. Ngannou’ confidence was too high in the AJ fight.

So does Jorges Masvidal. I haven’t heard Fury shouting that he’d compete against the top boys in the Ufc. If he wanted to, he would have. He knows better.

Fury told DAZN: "Beyond boxing, after I’ve done Usyk twice and after I’ve given him [Ngannou] a good hiding if he wins [versus Joshua], I want to go into the cage with him with small gloves on, 100%.

“He was chatting s*** about how boxing protects me, and I don’t think so. I think I’ll smash his face in, in the cage.”

It’s all talk. Dana would put that fight on in a heartbeat.

edit - Or maybe what happened with CM Punk would deter him from doing a crossover fight again.

Fury says a lot of things in the heat of the moment. He said he’d fight for free on ITV, then said he wants 500m to get back in the ring a few weeks apart.

He has no interest or belief in fighting MMA

Not posting this as a retort to the point being made, but I don’t think even Fury believes that crap he’s talking. Anyone seriously claiming boxers wouldn’t get battered in the octogon is not to be taken seriously lol.

Enjoyed Ngannou in that presser the other day saying that he’d take Fury apart in any context other than a boxing ring, cos he’s totally right and Fury has no real response to that lol

In a hypothetical combat sports league table, which is what I am referring to, boxing would be inferior to a lot of them. I’d put things like Muay Thai, kickboxing and even Krav Maga ahead of boxing. I’d put Judo, wrestling and sambo ahead of it too.

Boxing would be at risk of relegation

I don’t actually think any boxers truly think they can beat a decent MMA fighter in MMA. They have enough fighting experience to know better.

I posted the quote cos @Truth_hurts said Fury hadn’t said that lol

My entire point has been about the whole comparison between the two when the only point of judgement we have is a few boxing fights and minimal MMA material to use, which itself is a reflection of the fact boxers won’t touch MMA.

I know why you posted it, that’s why I said my post wasn’t a retort to yours. Was just using it as a jumping off point to say what I wanted to say on the topic.

Interesting.

I just see them all as completely seperate crafts.

It’s like comparing invasion games. How do you rank baaketball, football, hockey and American football. I’m not sure than it can or should be done.

Of course he would. Any of those top guys in boxing can easily get a bag if they really want to fight a UFC fighter. If Garcia really wants to fight OMalley in MMA, Dana would make it happen.

The main roadblock is boxers being very well aware that they can’t hang in MMA, at all. At least in a boxing match you can have the illusion of it being competitive.

As to my earlier point, do you think what happened with CM Punk will make Dana pause before making that fight?

I seem to recall Dana saying something like he would never do that again.

Tbh I kinda put the CM Punk thing in a different category of fight than something like O’Malley v Garcia which I think is more comparable to Conor v Floyd.

I reckon he’d do it in a heartbeat, particularly if Sean beats Vera tomorrow and has to potentially face Merab in his next defence. Dana would rather milk that cow than have Sean face Merab and get destroyed as we all expect.

Oh for sure. Merab will be the bantamweight champ before the year is out.

because one calf kick would end the fight in 3 seconds every time, so they would need to mess around and play pretend to make it a spectacle so ppl keep paying to watch etc. that circus is easier to disguise in boxing.

Proper fixed fight.

Ngannou looked gassed and stood there flat footed from the very start.

Ngannou was interviewed and said he felt sleepy before the fight.

Derek Chisora bet and won £450,000

I suppose you gotta laugh at Anthony Joshua doing 4,600 PPV BUYS in America

Joe Joyce wins tonight he could be fighting Deontay Wilder.

Dillian Whyte fighting tomorrow in Ireland.

Did you like Fury’s performance against Ngannou?

It wasn’t a fix. AJ just schooled Ngannou.

He stood there flat footed like a statue.
