Black Lives Matter Movement

You don’t think minorities are actually held back?

Of course I do. If you’ve read any of my non-football posts you’ll see that. There’s a massive, systematic economic inequality under capitalism. I am not a fan of capitalism either. I am a fan of the world modernising and not just repeating history, though. About 100 years ago Ortega y Gasset said that history repeats itself because the modern man has no interest in the fundaments of culture, he doesn’t know his history, and isn’t interested in it. I think he was rather generous in his appraisal of the modern man.

Personally, I don’t. Not that I’ve seen anyway.

No-one gives it to you. You have to take it.

Agreed, but this is not what is happening. Pulling down statues and renaming streets by mob rule doesn’t challenge the elite one bit, nor does it bring people together on class grounds. It does the opposite.

The ignorance from this statement is incredible.

Tbh man, I’ve seen people “cry” racism too much as a convenient excuse for their own misgivings. In my experience, you have to keep trying and keep trying harder to achieve what you want.

Again, I’m only speaking from personal experiences.

This sounds very controversial, and it’s probably a subject for another day- I don’t want to negate or take away from what is a very important and much needed movement in Black Lives Matter.

Honest to fuck a statue comes down and England goes into meltdown. Mob rule, anarchy etc. Such a squeamish country.
Never makes an ounce of progress with its public enquiries and petitions. Get some fucking anger and channel it ffs. Fuck all this know your place in society shit.
40, 000 dead due to gross negligence and incompetence but thats okay. Some obscure chancer from back in the day gets dunked and people think its the cultural revolution in fucking Bristol.

These guys pulling down statues are no better than Mao’s red shirts and nazi brown shirts. Those people are the ones that pulled down statues and burned books/banned books to erase history they did not like. The Taliban blew up historic sites that predated Islam because paganism. To me this has nothing to do with black lives at all. I wonder how the lives of the Black people there has improve since the removal of the status?

Yeah just like them dickhead religion pricks burning Beatles records in the 60s.

Lol why do you guys go to religion like I’ve ever said I was religion shows how far up your own ideology you are your shit left cult is the new religion you refuse to see it. Again how much has the lives of the black folks of Bristol improved since the statue came down? What black person asked for statues to be pulled down?

Id imagine there was some black names on the petitions that had been signed.

Hahah so well said mate, some of the reaction in this thread is verging on the hysterical. You’d think this statue being hauled down represents the literal end point of Western civilization the way some people are going on.

Apparently it should be back on the platform with a discussion about how it’s a problematic film

I’ve never seen it, what are the supposedly objectionable parts of it?

Worth a watch

Because times have changed…

Bit of an odd decision. Didn’t an African actor win an Oscar for that film? The first African actor to ever win one.

Apparently it depicts slaves as happy in a time just before the civil war, which is what people take issue with.

I’ve never seen it so I can’t say personally.

Ah yea that’s what I meant, what part of the film was objectionable.

If Friends gets pulled, then I’ll join in the outrage
