The 100 million pound question with Sesko is why he doesn’t get more chances. His conversion rate is actually really good but he hasn’t gotten on the end of many chances.
The optimistic take is that RBL is just a broken team and he is starved for service, especially high quality chances. RBL has created 43.4 non-penalty xg all season, on a per game basis that is roughly equivalent to a side like Manchester United or Fulham in this year’s PL. Nobody is scoring for fun in those kinds of sides. People assume RBL is like this Bundesliga powerhouse but this 24-25 RBL team just basically sucks. But put him in a team that dominates territory and regularly plays in the final third of the opponent like Arsenal and he will bang.
The negative take is that maybe Sesko is part of the problem at RBL and he either doesn’t have the hunger or instincts to sniff out chances. At the end of the day, I really haven’t watched them enough to say. But I think it goes to show its not enough to just look at his numbers, its really the context of how those numbers are being generated that is critical.
I’ve certainly not watched him enough to die on a hill for us to sign him. Frankly, if we don’t get him I couldn’t care less.
However, I’ve seen him at least a dozen times in the last two years, across the CL for Leipzig and for Slovenia in the Euros.
It’s not hard to see that he’s got potential.
He’s got the tall(6’5), he’s quick, he’s pretty athletic, got some muscle on him, his leap is ridiculous, got a torpedo of a shot, his left foot is decent and he’s decent enough technically. Doesn’t appear to be a slacker either.
My criticism on him was that he’s not a good finisher and his hold-up needed work. So yeah, he’s not there yet but he’s got potential.
I don’t blame top clubs seeing his profile and age and thinking there’s a player they can work with.
Not that deep of a nerd with numbers myself, I think I may have had this conversation with you or someone else but the instances I’ve seen him, getting chances didn’t seem to be his problem.
In the games against Real Madrid last season he kept finding chances(but he couldn’t convert them). Madrid’s defence simply couldn’t contain him, whether it was in transition or in a packed penalty box.
I know people laughed at @The_Invincibles’s argument about headers but if this dude were to come here, Jover and Arteta would abuse his presence in the box.
People know how dangerous we are from set pieces, imagine adding this dude in the box, on top of Gabriel, Merino and Havertz, with Rice and Saka whipping balls in.
Off topic but I heard that the window opens on the 1st June, closes on the 10th and then reopens on the 16th? Whats the fucking point just keep the window open!!
That’s practically a registration period for the Club World Cup teams.
Either way it may not be “officially” open yet but transfer business is well underway for most teams already.
Things will speed up after this weekend too when most leagues finish up.
