Don’t worry…I’ll get you the money. @JakeyBoy is going to owe me some, so perhaps this can be the down payment for resurrecting the OA Arcade…

Still not convinced this is the guy to take us forward. A 22-yr old who hasn’t really done anything, is suddenly going to come here and become a world beater?

When Man Utd realised they needed a striker in 2012, they got RvP and murked the league with ease.

Feels like we’re in the same place, and instead of getting the guy that’s got 70+ G/As we’re turning to the lad who ‘could be great one day’.

We don’t need more strikers who need 100 chances to score 1 goal please.

A Bayern friend at work today said that he misses sitters all the time.. but I dunno if he’s biased/comparing him unfairly to Kane.

Happy to be proven wrong, but the club haven’t been too great in their last 3 transfer windows so…

The last couple of seasons suggest that CF is very much a position Arteta will compromise on.

At the rate you and Starmer are going, he’ll be out of office before you’ve accepted either of the bets I’ve proposed.

I completely believe this to be the case. This Gyokeres interest is clearly driven by Berta.

Arteta shouldn’t have any legs to stand on regarding the striker signing. He’s got terrible talent ID when it comes to strikers.

How many has he signed and which ones were terrible? Because Jesus certainly wasn’t a terrible striker he was our best player by some distance before injury.

I misspoke. Rather than having bad talent ID, I’d say he more so doesn’t appear to truly value the effect a 25+ goal striker can bring to a club. Cause he hasn’t bought any during his time here which is quite concerning imo.

While it could be true, I doubt someone has such specific information about Arteta’s and Berta’s preferences. Seems made up.

Also, I doubt someone will push his idea there onto the other. Whoever we get will probably get the approval of both.

Also, I really can’t imagine what standout quality does Sesko possess over Gyokeres to make Arteta so desperate about him? Maybe only heading (marginally too btw, Sesko is no specialist, while Gyokeres isn’t as bad as it’s being made at times), but I don’t think that plays an important role anyway.

Maybe the club have the same reservations every other big club seems to have about him? He’ll be 27 shortly and his career is basically a couple of seasons in the Championship and then destroying a league that is largely made up of Championship/League 1 quality teams.

He also hasn’t really shone much in the Champions League with any particularly devastating performances and he’s scored a tonne of penalties.

I don’t even have much to go on with either guy having only seen them a handful of times but in an era where the striker market is at its worst there is a guy available for circa £60m and very few teams seems to be genuinely interested in him?

He seems the most sensible choice for us to sign and I’m fully on board with backing him every step of the way if he does sign but it just seems like such a 50/50 transfer.

An argument for the opposite could be made. He could value the position so highly that he has refused to compromise with a weaker option which could mean we are then unable to bring in a better option later down the line.

I don’t focus on the interest of the other clubs at all. If we do end up signing him, our evaluation of him being good enough we be more than enough for me.
Also, it’s hard to say how many and which actual clubs are in the race atm. Romano did mention “several” clubs, but only named us and United.
Maybe you could expect clubs like Liverpool or Chelsea to be interested too (or maybe they want a younger profile atm). PSG don’t have a top 9, but seems they don’t really need one atm.
The timing of our very project is important also.
Most other clubs maybe arent that focused to get a striker who has to perform NOW, and would be more open to get a younger talent. We don’t have the time for those kind of projects.

Again, I don’t really care much about the outside intereset in him. Even if there is a ton of that he can still turn out a flop the same way.

All in all, I am fucking desperate for us to improve our attack. That’s the main thing. Gyokeres may well turn out a flop (I would agree it’s a 50/50 too), but that wont save the club from my criticism. They have to get it right. If we do get Sesko, he has to perform NOW, I don’t care how young or raw he is. There is Osimhen too.

If they don’t see a good enough starting 9, just go all in on Rodrygo, boost our wings, get Nico too, maybe get a decent alternative for Havertz too idk… Play a strikerless formation like PSG, do something. Our attack has so much room to improve, no excuses not to do it. And we also have to do it early enough.

We obviously have the recources and have been investing decently in these few years, while it’s not an overreaction to say we have been neglecting the front line to a big extent.
Time to fully priotitise the attack this summer.
We got Zubi early enough, after chasing him the last year, the same should happen in at least a month with our 9 or LW position (or both).

Going back to the 9s specifically again, guys like Gyokeres or Osimhen are most likely to answer our needs. Sesko can’t get a pass because of his age if he doesn’t perform.
If he’s our marquee forward siging of the summer, functioning as an alternative/rotation for Havertz in the next season… (this goes for Arteta and Berta)

Is this true and is he willing to put his job the line for him?

No its from some 15yr old in his bedroom pretending he’s David Ornstein

Elon really has made this so much worse as people can now make money the more people click on their utter tripe

Because those players are a dime a dozen?

He has rebuilt the team out from the back, which is the right way to do so, imo. I have zero doubts that he “values” a striker that could score at such a rate. Any names that the club haven’t gone after?

There’s a good reason why such players will command such exorbitant transfer fees—there simply aren’t many such players out there.

Instead, clubs have to take a chance on a later bloomer like Gyokeres or a younger talent like Sesko.

Anyone besides Isak that carries little risk out there? It would take an eye watering fee to get Isak.

Aside from inheriting Auba who was that kind of player, Arteta has never seemingly favoured a striker that spearheads our attack like that. He clearly has his teams mapped out to score goals amongst themselves. And that’s fine.

It’s why these Sesko links are strong. With Berta able to have a big say on his own behalf, we now have an opposition in the room that will make a case for a profile like Gyökeres. If Berta wins out, we would be foolish to think Viktor could replicate the same output in the PL as he has done in the Primera Liga, but it certainly helps to open up other avenues in our attack with a presence like that in the team.

Looks like Arteta won

Ooooh, I hope he knows what he’s doing
