but the shortened version above, says that one of Sesko’s weaknesses is his finishing, which is what we’re desperately in need of
I’m only going on the highlight videos I’ve seem which shows we can score a range of goals. But agree, box efficiency and converting chances is what we need from a new No.9…a fox in the box!
Well if he develops into a top striker, we are certainly getting him young and allow us to sort the striker role for a long time.
But we gotta wait a couple of seasons for him to be the top striker.
That’s not terrible. I expected them to ask for more tbh.
Some fool on Twitter mentioned that Chelsea have entered the race for this player, can anyone confirm? They seem to just follow everything we’re doing, can’t stand them.
Indeed, some fool on Twitter mentioned that Chelsea have entered the race for this player.
If we leave it until the summer there’s a chance they could
He fits the bill for them and what they’re doing regarding transfer policy
Works for me.
Who’d you want if they did hijack?
I wouldn’t focus on a striker myself. I would prioritise a top wide player instead.
With Jesus cooked and Havertz clearly not the answer ?
That’s a dangerous game
Priority being the wide player doesn’t mean not signing a striker. We need both.
I think there more game changers out there that play out wide rather than up top so that’s where I want us spending the big bucks on.
I think it depends what players are available this January. We are clearly interested in Nico Williams, but that deal from all the reports looks very unlikely to get done now and is one for the summer. If that’s the case, then if we can get a permanent deal done for Sesko now, assuming he is our No.1 striker target, we should get it done now and then focus shifts to wingers in the summer. Incidentally, just posted in the Transfer thread about links to Brahim Diaz from Real Madrid, and possible loan deal.
If there are more of them (Ie, elite strikers are more scarce), then you should be able to potentially spend… less, no?
Reality is, we need at least 2 top attackers… at this point we know we need at least one top striker and one top wide attacking player, so just get either/both. I still maintain we will get neither this winter.
Wouldn’t mind us doing it if it’s between him no one. But can’t say I’m over the moon with him as our marquee forward signing for this year. Surely with that fee he doesn’t leave much space for other signigs, except for that big winger need too. Is he good enough to be that star 9 we are searching for so long?
I was more excited with Jesus when we were getting him bte and I had more reasons to be.
We just have to hope he’ll become a big player, but no one can guarantee it. It’s a gamble, an expensive one. I hope we have done a brilliant, extensive scouting on him if we are about to get him.
I don’t him to fall into the same category as Havertz in a year. A decent player who looks very good when things are going for him but just isn’t good enough as an out and out started. He needs to be THAT GUY.
That’s why I think pushing for Gyokeres would make more sense for us atm. If this was 3-4 years ago while we were in the middle of that rebuild phase I would be much happier about a young talent like Sesko, but now is the time to finish the squad, at least the way I see it.
I think the problem is whoever we go for is a risk. There isn’t a top striker target available that can come in and be THAT GUY for us. Sesko, Gyokeres, Duran, and Vlahovic all have risks associated with us and there is no guarantee that any of them come into the team and perform well in the PL. There is a distinct lack of top quality strikers out there, and as a consequence, the fees come at a premium. So that adds to the risk factor. I also think the striker role comes with the most scrutiny in the team so whoever we get will be under close scrutiny from fans and pundits if and until they establish themselves. Being realistic £60-£70m is the going rate for a striker. I’d still love Isak at Arsenal, but no way is that possible in January and very unlikely in the summer due to the fee that Newcastle would command.
This is true, which is why its sad we didn’t go for one of the current Premier crop that is succeeding sooner…
Having said that, to me the least risky is Gyorkeres… Vlahovic no thanks. Not familiar enough with Duran or Sesko tbh, but I like the idea of Sesko at 21 - but certainly means we need 1-2 more in summer regardless.
