I mean fair enough he was like 19 then, so a bit unfair to hold it against him but it a lot of this content just goes to show what a cynical political opportunist he is because it’s so clear he doesn’t actually believe any of the shit he’s peddling to get all these creepy Christian nationalists on board so he can be VP. Even though he’ll be the VP with the least amount of power and influence in history, as Trump will castrate him from the beginning.
It definitely felt like a pick made in the context of him cruising to victory (at least in the polls).
It didn’t open up any new battleground states for him, didn’t balance the ticket ideologically, and even though VP is a very odd job, he managed to pick a guy who is really unqualified.
Really don’t understand why a kid being proud of their dad got such a reaction from right wing nutjobs.
He loves his dad. If anything you’d think a political party that constantly pushes the idea of fatherhood as this goal for men would be happy to see a son so proud of his dad.
That and now that Joe Biden who couldn’t string a sentence together has gone, Americans realise the last 4 years have actually been pretty good all things considered and want more of that.
@Electrifying I have to give Biden a lot of credit here. I’m not sure who eventually got through to him but to voluntarily walk away from that much power and authority is something that hasn’t happened in more than a generation.
Yeah I think the last four year have been more or less okay. I would probably argue that Biden made a bad call appointing Garland to the DOJ and could have taken bigger swings on things like student debt and guns but unfortunately he had to deal with people like Sinema and Manchin in the Senate and a Federal judiciary stacked with some of the craziest people to ever pass the bar.
I don’t like how the administration handled (or is handling) Gaza, but I recognize I may be in the minority with how I’d want them to handle it even within likely Democrat voters.
I am optimistic that Harris can pull it off. She needs at least one of Pennsylvania, North Carolina or Georgia to have a shot at winning. I think the Georgia state government is doing everything it can right now to lay the groundwork for legal challenges to delay and disrupt certification. That leaves North Carolina and Pennsylvania imo. After Pittsburgh helped bail the US out in 2020 I promised I’d never say another bad thing about them even though I’m from Baltimore. If they do it two elections in a row I won’t even know how to cope.

Yeah that tracks. There was one of Trump’s cousins or nephews maybe doing the press circuit recently relaying a story about how Trump told this family member to put their disabled son in a care facility and just move to Florida. It’s really ghoulish stuff.

It sounds silly in hindsight to blame cable news but the amount of free coverage he got in 2015-2016 was just incredible. That’s why I really don’t blame Harris for not doing any press conferences. It’s not like NYT or Post reporters are going to ask anything substantive. The questions will be some variation of “Donald Trump said you turned black. What do you think about that?”
@Electrifying You can still love it. I just don’t think a guy who’s probably not even in the top 100 of richest people in the US has any serious influence on American politics in the way you might be thinking.
