Would it be fair to say he’s a big reason the channel became so popular in those early days?
I’ve never had a problem with AFTV. Yes, a lot of rival fans used to get a good laugh out of some of their content back when we were a banter club but I didn’t think the opinions and view of fans on AFTV were any different from the stuff that was being said here on OA. They have all kinds of people on their platform, from the ones that are controversial, to the ones that are just absurd, and then a few with balanced views, just like OA I would argue.
What makes them different is that they make money out of it and so they do tend to do things that generate more views and that often is the negative stuff. But they have covered the positives as well, like the FA Cup win under Mikel, which I think at that time generated the most views. I don’t see them as an organization trying to make money of our club’s misery, like Simon Jordan opines.
The thing is, negativity sells cause that’s just the way these things go. Take the reviews in Google, or Amazon. Only a small percentage of happy customers will bother with a review, but a significantly large percentage of unsatisfied customers will add a negative review. At least that’s how I and many others I know operate.
And full disclosure, I haven’t watched AFTV for a long while now, so am not a big fan or anything.
