Wonder when people like this will realise it’s completely possible for Emery to be both a good manager and not right for us at the time (or probably ever). Granted the AFTV lot try to be controversial.
Good to see him doing well, we’re doing even better.
Love the content DR Sports and AFTV bring to the table nowadays but I will say Robbie has to take a huge chunk of the blame for the hatred towards AFTV.
It was his decision to maximise engagement and profits at the expense of damaging the perception of his brand. The same reason people on here might browse RedCafe after a United defeat is the same reason so many rivals fans watched AFTV. And Robbie made full use of this for his own wealth, paying no mind to whatever else that could cause or how it would reflect on the perception of Arsenal fans as a whole. So he has to accept the hate from Arsenal fans not involved with it. I’m sure most people would accept that themselves if given the fortune he’s made tbf.
He gave countless fan cams exclusively to extreme characters such as Troopz, DT, Claude, Ty and a few others every game as he knew they always brought in the numbers. Supposedly “a voice for Arsenal fans”, once he found a few “stars” he pretty much only interviewed those guys and tbf the numbers showed they’re all anyone wanted to listen to.
Another thing Robbie did was he’d switch up his line of questioning depending on who he interviewed to get them riled up. The YouTube space is literally all about numbers and people on these platforms will try everything to cause engagement. Robbie is a certified engagement whore no two ways about it and its worked.
Robbie started something huge in this space and its led to a lot of football content online across fans of all teams but he knows the negatives that came with that.
Now that they’ve built up so many fans they’ve been able to distance with the more extreme people involved (mostly by circumstance in most cases) and they’ve cleaned up the place considerably. Good bunch on there now and with the studio around its way more than just fan cams.
What I disagree with completely is when people tried to blame AFTV for the failings of Arsenal FC for years. That had nothing to do with them and to connect the two together was ridiculous.
They created a new sub-culture/industry in the space of 5 years. They’ve gotten rid of all the trouble makers and are now a very respected media company.
First and foremost, they’re Arsenal fans who want the club to succeed. They go to every game, provide insights specific to Arsenal that you won’t find on mainstream TV.
The company wasn’t started by a business person, so there was always going to be PR nightmares given how public facing their work is.
It’s clear what Robbie and the team are building here, a media company that will one day have its own channel on major TV networks.
The hate back in the day was justified, but these past 2 years they’ve sorted out their crap.
After a bad performance, I just can’t stand the way Robbie smiles whilst he purposely asks a question that is guarenteed a negative response. He loves it.
