Such a shame how his career ended up. The guy was a great talent but once again injuries are the story of his career here. If only he coulda stayed healthy.

Ramsey in the final 3rd was a madness

Not only the amount of great goals he has scored, but also the variation. There are thirty yarders, left foot, right foot, volleys, flicked volleys, backheels/flicks with the ball on the floor, dinks, dribbles/nice bits of footwork, all sorts.

To me the variation indicates the talent he has, so while his game has obvious deficiencies, I feel his talent deserved to be showcased in a better career than Ramsey has ended up having.

Wouldn’t say injuries are the main story of his career here at all. Many great performances and moments - just as many (if not more) games of complacency and carelessness. Due to how important his contributions were most fans choose to forget how frustrating he was too. The ultimate mixed bag.

Personally I think his best form came when we had a hold up striker and a few creative playmakers in front of him/out wide so he could make late runs (the bread and butter to his success). If you look at the team composition in 2013-14 he slotted in perfectly.

Not just the goals and qualities on the ball, but the runs he’d make from deep to open up spaces in the final third. Despite his deficiencies, definitely could’ve had a better career than he already has.

He ended up at what is one of the best five(?) clubs of this moment. He definitely hasn’t got the talent to cut it at the Spanish big two. What more could his career have been?

More than just hypothetical for a start

Yeah, I feel like Ramsey’s career was about what it should’ve been. He reached his peak in 13-14 and at times from 14-18 (especially 16-18, 15-16 was a terrible season and 14-15 he had injuries + trying to do too much at times). Obviously injuries limited him, and continue to limit him, but that goes of a lot of players, and many players suffered just as bad injuries or worse and continued on (Thiago comes to mind)-- I wonder if there isn’t something about Ramsey’s playing style or preparation that leads to so many muscular injuries.

He was a big talent and he showed it at times, but using Thiago again as an example I think those are two players whose career basically matches their talent, despite injuries. I think the Ramsey we saw in 16-18 was basically what his talent showed he would be in his mid to late 20s as a mature player. If people were expecting more perhaps they overrated his talent a bit, or forgot that Lampard took penalties and that his career might’ve looked something quite like Ramsey’s from 16-18 if they played under similar circumstances.

Ramsey’s goal output is also something that stopped him from establishing a good role in midfield.

We already had Ozil in an attacking position and once Cazorla got injured, we needee someone to take hold of midfield and I was hoping Ramsey does the mature thing & curb his attacking desires but that didn’t happen.

I’m referring to his Arsenal career, couldn’t give a fuck what he does outside of this club.

I dunno about that, I think that was just part of his personality as a player, which is fine. When he was playing well he was a good all around-midfielder, so I dunno about the “Ramsey is greedy for goals” narrative.

He was just terribly shit in 15-16, in all areas. Who knows why. Probably not fully recovered from injury and sapped of confidence/trying too hard.

That is what would have happened if he stayed fit. He would have left sooner. Like he did anyway.

Lol I don’t care, like I said I’m looking at him in the vacuum of Arsenal. Thought he was a great talent that would show these flashes of brilliance and then be off the pitch for months with a hamstring or something else.

LIST TIME BOYS

In terms of promising talents we’ve had since 2000 where would you rate him

ELITE-- FĂ bregas, Diaby, RvP, Gnabry (in that order)
MAYBE ELITE?? – Wilshere, Nasri, Walcott, Vela, Jeff Reine Adelaide (in that order)
JUST BELOW ELITE–Adebayor
BELOW THAT, BUT INTERESTING-- Bendtner, Denilson, Song

Not including GKs and defenders nor Fran MĂ©rida because I can’t be arsed.

OVERRATED BY ARSENAL FANS – Walcott, Ramsey

Ramsey is elite.
Big game player. Scored few in big matches. FA Cup winning goal. 100% effort for the club.

Nasri was definitely the most overrated of the three, in retrospect.

Ramsey’s talent was overrated by Arsenal fans, but his actual production came to be rather underrated, like Walcott’s, perhaps for the same reason (their talent being overrated).
