2016 Summer Olympics - Rio

Hard to have any confidence in cyclists being clean under normal circumstances…the whole doping business is madness in a way though really. I was listening to a radio show today and the guy was talking about doping and how studies showed that some of the banned substances would give the athlete less of a boost than a cup of coffee.

48kg Womens weightlifting final stream.

USA are just illegal. They are leading China 59-30 at HT.
Interesting results. Must say it’s times like these I don’t envy some of the competitors in some sports, stuff like making sure you eat or drink the right thing that doesn’t contain a banned substance must be so difficult to manage, even if they give no performance advantage.

I remember a few years, a Motorcycle rider was suffering from Hayfever, but he couldn’t take hayfever medicine, as it contained a banned substance, so just had to put up with it.

They were legal in 2004, and they were almost legal in 2012 final :joy:

That’s just such utter bullshit. The idea that if it’s on the banned list for one sport it’s on them for all sports is so fundamentally wrong.
Totally agree, it is pretty stupid. Though I guess it’s just sending out a strong message. Mind you, it’s incredibly rare you ever hear of any drug scandals in Motor racing, and long may it remain that way.

Some suspect refereeing in this.

Basketball final score: USA 119 China 62

Idk why other teams even show up. Just by virtue of being an American I’m better than 99% of the world at basketball.

Another medal for us. Gabriele Detti placed third in men’s 400m freestyle.
Meanwhile, we got thrashed 3-0 against Serbia in women’s volleyball.

:eyes:

Italy-France 3-0 in men’s volleyball. And to think they had beaten us twice in the last two games between us and them

Disappointing none of them got hit by a car trying to make their escape.

Great handball match between Germany and Sweden.

The women’s cycle race was incredible. The Dutch leader had a nasty accident 10km from the finish. No word on her condition. One of the Americans inheirted the lead and held it all the way until 150m from the line when a group of three flew past her. So unfortunate but really interesting race.

I think GB will be disappointed to come away from these two races without gaining a medal, as Arminstead came home 5th.

All those drugs for nothing eh?

That crash was absolutely brutal. Felt bad for the American lady but those three behind her played the finish to absolute perfection.
The race was a perfect example of how to get tactics spot on or just fall short. That’s when the cycle races become really fun to watch.

They were even saying during that twisty section, do you go fast and risk crashing it, or play it safe and give away time. And ultimately Van Vleuten just totally misjudged the corner. Imagine if she had that crash back in the days where helmets were optional, that could’ve been really bad.
