You know what really grinds my gears?

Social media.

I’ve finally disabled my Instagram account after realising how bad for my mental health it is. Pretty sure it was contributing significantly to my stress levels.

I came off all social media (minus LinkedIn) 5 years ago and can honestly say it was the best thing I ever did.

My bro can spend half his day literally scrolling aimlessly at Insta on his phone. No way that’s good for him.

What aspect of Insta does that? Is it like comparing yourself with others? Or is it the need to check constantly?

Not on it, just curious

It’s constantly comparing my life and my life decisions to everyone else.

Feels like I was in a constant league table to brag about leading the best life and showing off how successful everyone is and everybody is trying to make everyone jealous etc.

It was promotion day at my old job yesterday where I worked up until 2019 and a load of my friends were celebrating getting promoted and it just made me question whether I was right to leave that job even though I was fucking miserable and I was definitely right to leave.

I’ve been feeling like this about Instagram for a while now and it’s been making me increasingly cynical and bitter about how I feel like I’m lagging behind in life even though I’m not, so I’ve called it quits now.

Yeah LinkedIn can fuck off too imo, except it is good for networking and lead generation

Thanks mate, I find it quite cathartic to be honest about these things and maybe it’ll help someone else feeling the same way.

I have Instagram but I’m more a reader I check it a few times a day and I hardly ever post on it. My last post was September 2019. Likewise twitter it’s more a news website for me I never post on that either.

My friend’s are the same. Quality over quantity

Yeah LinkedIn can definitely fuck off too, not long ago it was filled and still is with those ’ i woke up at 5am, had my daily 10 miles run, took a shower, responded to urgent emails and was at the office at 6am’ posts, and now all i’m seeing is people constantly complaining about that type of posts lol.

As a civil servant I basically have no need for it anyway but you can easily just leave linked in running in the background and only bother your hole looking at it if you fancy a change in career. Delete the app, unsubscribe from mails and leave it doing what it’s supposed to do.

Good decision, you’re way better off without it.
I don’t use Instagram and rarely use Facebook and, if I do, i hardly ever post on it apart from replies.

Why do people have to tell others about how great they’re doing, every few minutes, about the most mundane things?

If you need to constantly prove that you are a confident and successful person on a website then you are probably neither.

If I’m out having a good time the last thing I’m thinking about is Facebook
Yet I see friends taking photos and then posting them on social media, for people who couldn’t care less to see, rather than enjoying themselves.

It must be an age thing but I can remember going out with my mates to gigs or football or just going out for a drink, without everyone endlessly taking pictures.

Going to a concert is being ruined by almost everyone holding up their phone and recording it.
What happened to just enjoying it for what it is?

I’ve never had linkedin what is it?

Other people’s photos can be so bloody dull. It’s fine if it’s good photography or a few pictures from a nice holiday etc, but who wants to see 73 pictures of Chantelle and her friends pulling silly faces while holding cocktails?!

And this really fucks me off. The amount of people I see literally watching a gig through their phone. Are they going to watch their shitty recording back? Because no one else is going to want to watch it.

I’m intrigued.
I’ve changed my mind and I’m all in on Friend Face and Insta Gramophone.
Where are all these pictures of Chantelle and her friends holding cocktails?

Not for me, I’m just asking for a friend. :grinning:

This is one of my pet hates too, the amount of people that record the whole thing as well, who is actually going to rewatch the whole thing? :expressionless:

If it only affected them I wouldn’t care but when it means you can’t see because of a sea of phones :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

It’s Facebook for work!

So it’s not a jobs website like indeed? Whats the point of it then lol

Bit like tinder too
