“Played well”
200k per week for this guy to be nowhere near the match squad.
This is all on Arteta, Edu and Vinai.
The waste goes on and on.
Wig man Stan must be starting to wonder about the clowns he’s got running the club.
Gonna assume a poor English translation for some of this. Project wasn’t confirmed???
Played well in one game (Fulham). Then choose to jog around and put in little to no effort. Arteta continued to play him.
As @Kroenkeoutplease posted, this is all on Arteta. He pushed for Willian to be here and kept playing the clown.
Waste of time and money for Arsenal. Need him gone and let’s move on.
Well, we are paying him through our noses for sitting on the bench. That’s well played indeed.
I actually believe the first part of that.
I’m sure Arteta had something drawn up on paper and sold that to Willian, the same way he sold it to Aubameyang. I could see him being a charismatic salesman, telling players that they’re gonna be integral to the club, score goals, blah blah blah.
with Arsenal subsidising part of his wages
L for Edu
Maybe so but I’d rather we got rid of Willian and paid part of his wages than kept him, didn’t use him and then had to continue paying all of his wages.
I think @Craigie made the point a few days ago that if we don’t get rid of some of these players in extortionate wages then the alternative is we keep them and pay all of their wages.
If Willian is on around £140-180k a week and we end up paying half of that it’s still half of his wages off the books for the next 2 years. So it’s better than having to pay it all out and not get any use out of him.
I get that calculation but in terms of dealing with outgoings, it isn’t an impressive deal to me.
If it was a free that didn’t bind Arsenal that would warrant some credit but to get him out a be on the hook for % of his wage is poor, not the type of business I’d like to see from sporting director
Sure Willian is gone now for Arteta’s peace of mind basically, has no material effect on the squad or new business
Did people really expect anything different, got to eat the costs on a deal like this, we’ve seen it so many times before. Especially when you see the types of clubs looking to by him, you know if it’s a Turkish, or Brazilian club coming in for them you’re going to have to pay substantial postage on shipping.
Would be nice if some Chinese or Saudi club would come in for our players from time to time but never happens for us.
It’s not a great deal but we took a risk on Willian and it hasn’t worked out. I still think it was a good risk to take and would have been beneficial to reducing pressure on younger talent. Him and Arteta clearly don’t see eye to eye and his performances have been woeful.
The club have identified this and are moving him on quickly rather than having to deal with the circus that comes with negativity about this type of move.
Get rid, let him do his thing, subsidise a portion of his wages and move on. If we save £80k a week that’s still a good few million pounds a year off the wage bill.
TBH the L was in the signing in the first place… we were never going to get rid of this guy without subsidizing.
This says it all that we’re going to have to pay him to play for another team one year after giving him his mega 3 year deal.
How the Stan the wig can carry on backing these clowns is beyond me. Asleep in his coffin no doubt.
never wanted Willian in the first place, was never that great for Chelsea tbh
Do like how his only goal for the club relegated the baggies though
My concern was that he was too old and the track record of Chelsea scrubs at Arsenal was not a good indicator to begin with.
the only goals he ever really scored at Chelsea were penalties, they were mainly later into his Chelsea career
I love this back stabbing stories… against Legohair
