Willian

Can’t see him leaving. Will probably be like Ɩzil, stuck here on big wages without being involved.

Yeah no way anyone will want him

By looking for bids meaning they’re literally begging

A year on and still mind boggling to think we gave him a 200k/week contract. Has to be one of the worst deals we’ve done recently.

We had too many reports range his wages from 100k to 200k.

A Kia special

When you sign a player for free the consequence is that you offer him higher wages. The only issue with this deal was the length of the deal. I have no concerns with giving a player of his experience and quality the wage we did.

It hasn’t worked out for us but the signs were there that Willian is ultimately a good player and would bring a wealth of experience to the team.

The overarching issue here is the sheer volume of shit transfers we’ve made over the last decade. All that does is unfortunately shine an even greater light on the poor ones we make now.

But signing a Brazilian international who was coming off a strong season for Chelsea on a free transfer wasn’t a bad deal. We just should maybe not have given him a 3 year but rather a 2 + 1

or 1+2 =)

Good post though and I agree with a lot of the sentiment.

Willian is mostly a 1 year bad signing in retrospect, but when we did the deal, a one year deal would have seemed really smart.

Getting stuck with another albatross for 2 more years is a F*ing shambles, particularly in the context of so much other bad business (the point you make).

It was a bad deal because he was blatantly coming here for a pay day and to stay in London.

Have to side eye any dude that takes that kind of deal because they know we ain’t shit and are used to winning the biggest trophies but pony up anyways to a team so far on the slide it’s no longer a joke.

Yeah. I think you can afford to take a bad deal like Willian every once in a while but when you look across the board you can say we’ve made the following bad deals in the last 5-8 years (hindsight included in many of these deals);

Kolasinac
Ozil extension
Cech
Lacazette
Mustafi
New Xhaka extension
Runarsson
Mari
Saliba (because he will never play)
Pepe (love him but the £72m price tag will likely never stop being an issue)
Torreira (good punt but hasn’t worked out and now we can’t sell him)
Perez (signed for £20m, sold for peanuts)

There just so much shit to draw back on that any deal we make now that doesn’t work out is just magnified times 10 by the fans.

Bang on. I wasn’t a fan of the move but on paper it wasn’t bad business aside the length of the contract.

Not even worth counting down the days until his wage is off the books as you just know we’ll do something as equally dumb giving out another ridiculous contract to someone else

We’ll probably again sign someone on a high wage 3 year contract who’s clearly looking to join us as his retirement home and earn some decent money in the process

I’ve haven’t got issue with the punt but Edu got worked by Kia here. A 3 year deal was a rookie mistake and now a burden on the club.

Has he fukt out yet?

We already did. His name is Granit Xhaka.

Mate sent me this. Willian’s lack of professionalism has been mind-blowing.
