I do think it’s a little weird that the British tabloids don’t get more specific about whether it’s a “club” or “player” option. That kind of stuff is discussed extensively in the NBA. I’ve always assumed that the options were always on the club side, but it wouldn’t shock me if some players had their own options to exercise.
@arsenescoatmaker you can throw stats at me all day. The truth is, he’s never passed the eye test for me. I don’t think he’s very good. Maybe he’ll blow up playing with Auba. But I really don’t think much of him.
He scored 9 goals this season 4 from penalties and had 7 assists. I dont hate him as much as Josh but I do think it’s pretty underwhelming. He has some decent technical ability but he’s pretty slow and doesn’t really do much defensive work… Guess we will see how Arteta decides to deploy him.
Yeah I’d say his dead balls/long shots and movement on the ball/the way he protects and carries the ball forward are some of his best qualities. His close technique when he moves with the ball I always liked. He has pretty good decision making usually in the final third as well, if he is bummed for options he’ll at least leave it to someone else/recycle it. Maybe he has been a tad sloppier than usual on that front this season, I haven’t seen him that much this year I think.
He is pretty reliable all and all, I don’t expect him to hit new strides and bang some record amount of goals or anything, more like he’ll be a useful mature squad player. At least that’s what I hope for.
I dont hate it, I’m not sure what to think tbh. As I said it all depends on what Arteta is gonna do with him. Pepe is left footed and plays on the right and cuts in. Is he gonna have the right footed Willian play on the left in a similar fashion to Pepe? Willian has a good left foot regardless. It will raise the technical level of the team which we need, but if he and Pepe play at the same time where does that put Auba?
Like I said it’s just underwhelming in the sense that we are buying a guy who’s not a world beater by any stretch but yeh I could see how he can be a valuable squad player, and he’s free which is probably the biggest factor here. We do have a lot of options on the wings between Pepe, Saka, Nelson, Gabi, but nobody that we can definitely count on being consistent that’s for sure.
I don’t mind you thinking he’s shit. I like him but I can understand why some fans are concerned about this deal. Let’s just not act like some of his greatest strengths are his flaws that’s all.
If ur gonna get a guy who plays on the wing and move him centrally I’m smitten with Buendia for that. Much more active defensive player too. Buendia is actually much more of a natural central player, just shoe horned in on the wing for Norwich think it’s the opposite with Willian.
He can also do a very good covering job on the right which is much needed.
Only have too look how good a job Millner done for Liverpool with versatility and professionalism. Good player.
People been saying back the manager. Well hes earned the right too make sightings. It’s on him. His choice. Gotta go with it.
I’ve always quite liked Willian, I think he’s been a little underrated tbh. If it’s on a free for a couple of seasons, I don’t have a problem with it at all. Hopefully the wages aren’t astronomical though.
