William Saliba (2)

Just too be clear this wasn’t my argument. I feel he’s always favoured France and angled for it.
Again we will see how it plays out.

I know you didn’t. Wasn’t directed to you. :ok_hand:

Yeah that’s kinda the point i was making. I would question the mentality of a player who made the move from Marseille to Arsenal. The money is a huge factor but dont u want guys who have a passion to win at the highest level? If Saliba is intent on staying because he wants to win, thats the mentality of player u want. If there’s a player who’s willing to make a step down from the CL to Villa, I’d have major questions about him personally.

Marseille will never win the CL (again) or compete for it and they are also highly unlikely to be competitive in the league next season.

Coming to challenge himself in the Premier League and to force his way into a better regarded team is going to be a better challenge for him than simply playing for a team that is going to likely not see past the group stages in the CL and will probably battle for another top 4 spot next season.

This makes me wonder, Santi did not go to Real nor Barcelona but playing for Villareal and Malaga till the age of 27/28 to move to Arsenal.
Would you say he was not ambitious enough, before the age of 27/28?
Would you say he was such an so-and-so player before joining Arsenal?
Does joining a “bigger” club really matter on how good or how bad a player is, and his ambitious, competitive level?

Well he was close to joining Real Madrid but there was some issues with the transfer and it got called off. And the Malaga move was a money move they got taken over by a rich owner and he moved to Malaga.

still, he did not force to leave but staying; and Villareal and Malaga are the true small(er) club; till Malaga got financial problems and needed to sell him (and Monreal).

We all know that, he was really good enough to ask for a transfer to a much “better” team, not just Real or Barcelona.

It’s a shit mentality to want to leave ur team u just battled in the trenches with for a year and not reap the rewards of your labor. Some players want to play in the PL and some value the CL more. In fact many value the CL over a payday with a rich PL club who aren’t a very good team with no CL.

As much as I love Santi (maybe my favorite Emirates era player) who exactly was he displacing in that Pep-era midfield?

Now I’m not going to go all tinfoil hat and say this deal was a tax dodge or something like that (@stroller). But I think he’s probably very comfortable playing in France every week. That WC roster slot is up for grabs. Is he going to get to Qatar playing Europa League group stage matches, League Cup matches and maybe a few spot starts? I’m not so sure.

I think this deal gets done and he goes back to OM on a loan with an obligation to buy.

It’s not his team he’s on loan there with the idea that he’d be returning to Arsenal on completion of the loan.

Him wanting to come back to Arsenal is absolutely not an indictment of his mentality. Arsenal are a bigger club than Marseille and competing in the Premier League in front of a far bigger global audience for a much bigger club is simply not something that should be used against him if he does decide to stay.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely want him back and believe that he will upgrade our defense line immediately.

I just feel like, why do we have to condemn the player that seeks for other options but not willing to come back?
Yes, he is under contract, but it was also our club willing to send him out for a prolong period and not allowing him to play a single minute for the club before sending him away.
If some of us don’t care if he comes back or not because he never played a minute for us, it can also apply to Saliba that, because he never played a single minute for Arsenal, and why the fuck he would care to come back and play for us. He has zero connection and feeling on us as well.

If he stays he stays, if he wants to go just let go (in a fair price).

Arsenal a bigger club or not doesn’t matter. Arsenal can play by the book and recall him anytime, our club just lack of man management skills and not understand the players’ feeling is quite obvious though.

Because we as supporters are ultimately powerless and it feels good to shit on someone. :santi:

It’s not the point of my post. He’s made his desire known. He wants to play CL football with Marseille next season. I applaud him for that decision and I would do the exact same.

He’s coming back to Arsenal and will become an integral part of the team. French league is dead!

Would gladly wrap him up, send him to Chelsea and we can get Colwill coming the other way.

If they are prepared to pay €50m then sell him. We shouldn’t accept a penny less because he’s still got 2 years on his contract which means the power is with us for this summer at least.

He’s not leaving unless it’s silly money.

He’ll easily challenge either White or Gabriel for one of those starting positions.

No story and was always going to be driven by French press.

Didn’t have Saliba down as a lover of farms

Looking forward to a full summer of this shite lols
