We’ve done the right thing for Saliba and for the squad by loaning Saliba out. He’s had a great season in France and it has allowed us to establish a new back four. So many were questioning our move for Ben White, but he has been fantastic this season alongside Gabriel and they have built up a fantastic partnership together. I really don’t think Saliba would have been as ready for the PL last season and having both Saliba and White would have meant they both would have ended up with less game time overall.
Adding Saliba into the mix next season gives us three of the best centre backs in the PL IMO. Holding as 4th choice and backup is fine by me and gives us that squad depth. Our lineup next season is going to be night and day compared to what we had only a few seasons ago. BUT very pleased to see a clear statement of intent from Arteta by saying that we want Saliba back with us next season. Finally we have some centre backs we can be proud of at Arsenal.
L’Equipe flip flopping here, could be that that story they posted was indeed agent driven to put pressure on Arsenal.
The reports recently suggested that the player wasn’t told what the plans were for him.
If this is the case, bit embarrassing that the club again doesn’t communicate with the players well.
Ainsley had the same complaints last year.
Saliba isn’t going anywhere. The club can afford to hold onto him for another year without any issues so we need to take a firm stance and demand a huge few similar to the Kounde to Chelsea rumoured fee or just keep him at the club.
There’s too much noise around this. Clearly someone is pushing these out.
Arsenal, Marseille or Saliba. Perhaps some other club trying to cause a rift? Dunno.
I see no ploy here other than Arteta and Arsenal realising they’ve got a suddenly very hot objectively rated commodity on their hands with a deal expiring soon.
They want to protect the value of an assets and save face ultimately.
Spot on. Saliba just fought tooth and nail to play in the CL next season, only to learn that Arsenal want him as part of their plan which means Europa League and mid table PL
More good news regarding this! Just what I like to see. I think this is a massive piece of business to get tied up this summer and finally put to bed. Getting a contract renewal out of it would be the icing on the cake. If Saliba is as good as he is being touted to be, with a contract renewal in the offing too, the guy can be a key cog for Arsenal for 3 years and bounce to Real Madrid when he wants.
It’s either that or Marseille or someone else can cough up £60m+ for him. Marseille can fuck right off with their mates-rates malarkey.
Didn’t Marseille just lose one of their players to Aston Villa mate. Seems like not everybody fought tooth and nail so they could be a part of the CL campaign lmao
