Where will we finish 2019/20?

Unless we get at least two world class midfielder and defender, this will repeat again next season if not worse. We cannot play like atletico every week to beat everyone and whenever the onus is on to beat a team, we look fucking shite.

Literally, what is the point of you? :joy:

IMHO even as bad as some of our players are, we are about 1 or 2 players from a side that should at least compete for top 4… right now we are probably around 5th, maybe 6th… we underrate our side a little bit and the managerial turnover this year, starting with Emery-shambles, etc. has certainly hurt us.

I reckon we are fighting for 5th/6th next season unless one of Pool, ManU, Chelsea wobble substantially (ManU being the most likely IMHO)… but I think they will add too many points (aside from Pool) for us to have a chance.

To dismiss your generalization of the situation we find ourselves in.

We could lose Aubameyang or Lacazette or both.
Luiz is getting older so we lose a leader, if not a competent defender in the back.
Our midfield is an uncertain component as it is now with question mark on commitment from Torreira & Ceballos, even Xhaka for that matter if he is still bothered by what happened earlier in the season.

Well yeah, if we lose our strikers, we are F*d b/c they are our best players (well at least Auba).

Right, we get a top DM/DLP, re-loan Ceb, add another defender on top of Saliba, we are definitely in with a shout to at least compete for top 4. We were historically, tragically bad (and worse than our squad quality imho) and still only 10 points out of 3rd and 4th places.

A generalisation would be to say we won today and therefore we are the best team in the league and will win every game next season.
Looking at the results of half of the season (which pretty much aligns with Arteta’s time in charge), is not a generalisation.

Also, keeping in line with your pedantry, *generalisation

Bearing in mind that other teams will also be doing business from a stronger point of view. I mean you pretty much held the view that the six couldn’t be broken. Well we’ve now seen there’s indications that’s changing now.

Well going with that formula United are better than Liverpool or on a par. Sorry that’s not strong enough for your assertion.

I’ve held that view that it can’t be broken reliably and I stand by that, although moreso about top 4… the financial advantages are simply too great at the top… LC is incredibly damn impressive… as is Spurs, but it is just too hard to sustain without miracle sales (and those are unreliable)…

And to be clear, we will not be favorites for top 4, but we could be in the legit convo, especially if Chelsea or ManU have a wobble next season… I mean this pretty quality Chelsea side is still developing and relying heavily on an aging Ollie G to lead the line - they lost TWELVE times this season, even more than we did.

Anyway, if I were a betting man, I’d say we take 6th next year, maybe 5th… I don’t see Spurs or LC keeping up - just look at how LC collapsed second half of season and Spurs are always in danger of losing players and have Mou implosion to look forward to.

If you look at form table for second half of season (20-38), AFC is 5th… Spurs 7th… LC is 12th… Chelsea is only 2 points above us.

Once again, incorrect.
I never said that Arsenal were better than the teams we have better 2020 form than, I simply showed that the results since Arteta took over are far superior than the rest of the season under Emery, and therefore he cannot be blamed for our poor league position.

You’re for some reason suggesting that you can’t compare the results this season under Emery and Arteta, though I’m not sure why

Fuck my life I might just play the lottery

Well Arteta had more games than Emery for a start. So that’s a minor detail that could be considered.
It’s half full or half empty at best either way. For city cup win or Liverpool league win there’s a Brighton, villa spud loss.

Not really following this whole debate, but I just looked up form table and posted in my post directly above yours - we definitely are stronger 20-38 than LC, Wolves, Spurs, etc… its just Pool, City, ManU, and Chelsea that were above us and Chelsea only by 2 points.

We overrate the rest of the league… they just aren’t that good. LC only won 6 of their last 19 games.

I’m gonna say we’re gonna finish 3rd next season

Let’s do it. Drum up some positivity

There are only truly 2 teams in the top tier… the problem is we aren’t in tier 2 lol… but I reckon we are in for 5th or 6th. If we lose key players, all bets are off - in particular Auba.

Thing is, I almost genuinely believe we’ll finish above both Chelsea and Manchester United next season.

Auba would be a big loss, yes.

That’s the spirit!

I put third too. And I will do it again. I do not learn my lessons.

Finishing above both would be big ask, but neither are that great truth be told. All teams bar Pool and City have major weaknesses.
