In the context of what I said. It’s mostly about actually putting together the deal to get Klopp/top manager.
My point was that Liverpool may have been ‘lucky’ to get someone as good as Klopp, but they also took advantage of their relative position and ensured that it happened and that is what the administrative side does isnt it?
As I said in that same post, we can sit here and say teams are lucky or we can just play the modern professional game the same way.
Yeah, that’s totally fair and would agree with what you’re saying. That wasn’t me being my usual self, I was genuinely interested in understanding your post better.
The price I pay for years of being a sarcy prick is that it can be fucking hard to ask a genuinely innocent question sometimes lol
I do feel like you’re underestimating the willingness a manager has to have to join Arsenal, or Liverpool after Rodgers, even if you look at Arsenal with the most rose-tinted glasses. One of these top managers would still sacrifice with Arsenal over Bayern/PSG/United/Barcelona.
Well it’s good for us that those teams aren’t always in need of a manager then, otherwise you might have a point.
I’m sure Klopp would have probably picked Barca/United/Real over Liverpool if he had a good offer from one of them when Liverpool came in. And the timing suited.
Same with us. We can attract a good manager who is available if we are in a good position to do so and make a suitable offer.
But as I said, lucky for us, every big club isn’t generally looking for a manager at the same time, so whether or not they’d pick a mega-club over us won’t actually always matter.
Also, how do I have rose-tinted glasses? Literally this entire discussion has been about how poor I feel the club is doing and I’ve regularly been saying our squad is over-rated and I want Emery to leave.
Despite all this, I still believe we have all the tools to be attractive to top managers; location, history, money, and still a big club in a great league to name just a few. That’s not being bias, that’s just looking at the environment we are in.
I wasn’t saying you got the rose-tinted glasses. I was just saying that if anybody looks at Arsenal with even the most rose-tinted glasses, Arsenal still can’t offer as good of a proposition as other clubs with potential openings might.
I also believe Klopp has been en exemption in that (Liverpool’s history and his whole let’s talk about six BS refers to that imo ) and somebody like Allegri is going to wait it out and see what will happen with these other managers. There might be as many as four openings this summer at the richest European clubs.
It seems like a very long time ago back last August when I thought we had a shot at 3rd place.
I’m brimming with excitement that the government are giving a potential green light for the season to resume in mid June as of today although I guess it may get pulled if and when we get the second spike. So it’s probably a false hope.
I think maybe we’ll get up to 5th or 6th if we’re lucky now. Saliba will also be potentially available and I hope he’s as good as we hope.
So if they do start up the league again to finish it in June or whatever, does anyone else feel like this 2-3 month break might actually does a bit of good?
I’m cautiously optimistic. I think a lot of our players were looking jaded and a 2 month long hard reset to clear their mind and recharge their batteries may do us a world of good. And help injured players recover from their injuries like Bellerin and Tierney.
I’m hoping this hard reset will help clear the slate from any Emery hangovers and let the players come in with a more positive and dynamic mindset and let Arteta out his stamp on the team to a greater extent.
That said I do think this break could potentially be a fresh start for the players and may have done them a world of good. Who knows, I just want to believe
There was an article about how Arteta was talking to players every day and talking to them about tactics and mental health and staying fit etc. Hopefully it’s had a positive effect.
I don’t think we have many elite professionals in the team. Most have probs been dossing playing fortnite and fifa, losing a shit load of match fitness in the process.
