What was the last film you watched?

Will probably watch this next in a week or so time. It looked funny from the previews.

The last film I watched was America’s Sweetheart’s. Never heard of it growing up but it’s a palatable romcom.

The Menu

Thought it was poor and it made me hungry for that cheeseburger at the end.

5/10

To be honest mate, this is one of those films that’s more relatable if you work or have worked in the industry at the high higher end, maybe to the extreme but it’s based on encounters that chefs faced working under a certain Danish chef at a World famous restaurant in Copenhagen.

Kingdom of the planet of the apes 8/10

Solid entry to carry on from ceasers trilogy. Looking forward to see how this plays out.

Road House.

McGregor is an awful actor, but entertaining as fuck.

Look at how awful his delivery is here. So awful it comes full circle and might be one of the best lines ever delivered :joy:

Roadhouse is great, if like me, you love terrible films which are unintentionally hilarious

It’s why I love Steven Seagal movies

The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943)

Tells the story of the life and death of Major General Clive Wynne-Candy, a soldier in several wars, from his time in South Africa to WWII.

Powell and Pressburger were a great partnership in cinema. This movie is a masterpiece in acting, story, screenplay, visuals and direction. The delicate yet comedic telling of this man’s life was touching - even though it’s a fiction.

Roger Livesey as the incomparable General Wynne-Candy was a performance of such high standard, I refused to believe he played the old Wynne-Candy, it seems impossible to me that they’re the same actor. Plus, the way they aged him was highly impressive for now let alone 80 years ago!

Same guy - I find that highly impressive from him and the effects department!

Civil War (2024)

A US president in his third term tries to quell a civil war that has erupted in his country as his enemies fight to reach the White House and take him down. On their trail are 4 photojournalists trying to survive and document the war for posterity.

I wasn’t expecting much from this film but I found it very interesting. The discussions it’s sparked online are testament to it’s talented director and his desire to tell a story without “naming names” or taking sides. Despite his insistence that this film is inspired by recent real life events he doesn’t give the president a motive nor his detractors. He also stated that he is concerned about the polarisation of American society at the moment and falling trust in the media.

It’s the type of film that people read it into what they want to - the motive of the director and the characters in the story too, both the positive things they want to see and negative things they want to complain about. Some Conservatives have viewed it as an attack on them and some liberals have complained that he doesn’t make clear the motive of the factions at war nor the president’s ideology - meaning they didn’t make him an orange, touped simpleton with a red hat fetish.

I feel this film is one of the more interesting ones to have come out of the American film industry in quite a while.

Challengers

Not bad tbh.

The Mexican.

Very good. A welcome surprise to see Mr. Gandolfini in a different role to The Sopranos, whose character was really good.

Loved the whole series. Not even sure why lol.

There is no better depiction of the American tourist than in the introductory scene of Despicable Me (2010).

Deadpool and Wolverine.

Unnecessarily violent, but warranted and very funny. A polished, modern, comedy.
